About this role
Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Ending violence against women (EVAW) is a priority area in UN Women’s Strategic Plan and a core focus of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP). Violence against women is one of the most widespread human rights violations worldwide, affecting around one in three women in her lifetime, with a similar rate estimated across the Asia-Pacific region. Research shows that this violence is preventable, and its elimination requires a holistic approach across individual, community, institutional, societal, and governmental levels.
UN Women seeks a proactive and motivated intern to support the implementation and coordination of the SVRI Forum 2026, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, and International Migrants Day as well as other programme activities led by UN Women's Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) team, under the overall supervision of the Regional Programme Specialist on Ending Violence against Women (PROTECT).
About SVRI
As part of its portfolio, ROAP is a co-host of the SVRI Forum 2026, taking place from 5 to 9 October 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The SVRI Forum is the world’s leading global research conference on violence against women, violence against children and other forms of gender-based violence, convening more than 1,500 researchers, practitioners, survivors, policymakers, funders and activists every two years. The 2026 Forum is co-hosted by the Southeast Asia Gender-based Violence Prevention Platform and the UN Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention in Southeast Asia. UN Women ROAP is engaged across the Forum as co-host, presenter and exhibitor, generating a significant volume of registration, logistical, travel, procurement, coordination and communications tasks in the lead-up to, during and after the event.
Please note that the position’s support to the SVRI Forum will be office-based and will not necessarily include attendance to the Forum.
About the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual global campaign running from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. Led by civil society since 1991 and supported by the United Nations through the UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign, it calls for global solidarity to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. The theme for 16 Days of Activism 2026 is "Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity." More information: https://www.unwomen.org/en/what-we-do/ending-violence-against-women/unite/theme
During the campaign, the EVAW unit coordinates and supports events, communication, production of editorial and social media content, as well as logistics, both in Bangkok and remotely.
About International Migrants Day

While the official day is 18 December, one of the main regional events is expected to take place on 9–10 December. More information: https://www.un.org/en/observances/migrants-day
