School Psychologist Supervisor
Summary: Serves as a supervisor and manages the daily operations for a team of school psychologists that provide a full range of psychological services to schools, comprehensive services sites, and early childhood assessment teams; supports the provision of high-quality psychological services and ethical practices to meet the Division's strategic goals of having students achieve optimal learning.
Qualifications: Required
• Master's degree in school psychology, or a program deemed equivalent by the Virginia Department of Education review consisting of 60 graduate semester hours, plus a one-year internship as prescribed by the college awarding the degree. • Five (5) years of experience in school psychology. • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
• Must hold or be eligible for a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with endorsement in school psychology. • Knowledge of Division regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures, particularly related to special education identification and service delivery, psychological evaluation and report writing, threat assessment, suicide risk assessment, counseling, and human resources. • Knowledge of psychological theory and practice as applied to the behavior and development of children and young adults. • Ability to apply knowledge to the needs and requirements of a public school system. • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with other professionals within the school and the community. • Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting. • Analytic ability and adaptability to changing needs. • Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel. • Effective oral and written communication skills to prepare comprehensive reports, interpret findings for families and interact with diverse populations in the Division to provide psychological guidance and recommendations.
Major Duties/Essential Functions: • Supports school psychologists serving in a variety of settings and models, which include general education, co-facilities, service sites, preschool, and school-based programs for students identified as having an emotional disability. • Organizes meetings and manages daily operations for a team of school psychologists. • Staffs summer services such as summer clinic, ESY services, student clinic, and family clinic. • Develops school staffing assignment proposals for review and approval by leadership team and provides oversight of assignments to ensure consistent coverage at all schools. • Supervises the clinical practice of consultant psychologists. • Oversees Medicaid billing documentation for counseling services to students and related data management. • Oversees implementation of evidence-based intervention programs. • Collaborates to develop and assists in overseeing departmental, interdepartmental, and systemwide initiatives in response to increased student mental health needs. • Assists in maintaining community awareness and understanding of mental health and a high level of coordinated mental health services outside of the Division for students and their families. • Collaborates with school personnel, central departments and offices, families, public agencies, and private practitioners, as required. • Provides administrative and clinical supervision and conducts performance evaluations of school psychologists. • Works as part of the leadership team to develop annual goals for school psychologists and manages the implementation and evaluation of their outcomes. • Develops and delivers professional development programs. • Coordinates and chairs a divisionwide test review and approval committee. • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
