About this role
Job summary
The Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group (NWUHG) was established in shadow form in May 2025, bringing together Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust, James Paget University Hospitals NHS Trust (JPUH), and Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn, going live as the Group from 1 November 2025. This is one of the most ambitious system integration programmes in the NHS today, and strong financial leadership at each site will be instrumental in making it a success. This is a truly exciting time to join the QEH as Director of Finance, as we shape and deliver our strategy to achieve better outcomes for patients across the region. We are currently developing our EPR and QEH is part of the national New Hospitals Programme. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, backed by significant government investment, to transform and to deliver better care to all our communities.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to Marcus Thorman - Group Chief Financial Officer & Deputy CEO, as well as being part of the Senior Leadership Team at QEH you will hold responsibility for the overall financial performance of the Trust and provide expert financial advice to both the site-based leadership team and the wider Group leadership team. As a key member of the Hospital Management Board, you will play a central role in shaping the Trust's future success, setting financial plans and strategy at site level in alignment with Group objectives.
A key challenge for our Group and for QEH is delivering financial sustainability. The Trust has a balanced financial plan for 2026/27 but with a stretching CIP target of £27m and with the Trust in receipt of £16m of deficit support funding. Key to our progress is transformation both within the Trust and across the Group. We have stabilised our expenditure and are working with clinical and operational colleagues to improve productivity, which is also addressing waiting times in elective and cancer care. At the QEH you will be working with an engaged Executive Managing Director who understands and is responsive to the challenges faced.
