About this role

Job summary

This is a unique opportunity to become one of the the first Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) in our Urology Department, helping to establish an exciting new role within a forward-thinking and expanding service. As part of our commitment to developing innovative models of care, we are investing in advanced clinical practice to enhance patient experience, improve pathways and strengthen our multidisciplinary team.

Working alongside experienced urology consultants, specialist nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide autonomous, high-quality care for patients with acute, elective and emergency urological conditions across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory settings. Whether you are an accredited ACP or an experienced clinician looking to undertake the ACP training pathway, you will play a key role in developing this new service and influencing the future of advanced clinical practice within urology.

This role offers the opportunity to shape patient pathways, lead service improvement, contribute to education and research, and make a lasting impact on patient care while developing your own advanced clinical practice career.

Main duties of the job

You will provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with acute, elective and emergency urological conditions, working autonomously within an agreed scope of practice across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory settings.

Working closely with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate patient care, request and interpret diagnostic investigations, develop evidence-based management plans and undertake advanced clinical procedures appropriate to your competence.

You will also contribute to service development through quality improvement, audit and the implementation of evidence-based practice, while supporting education, leadership and the continued development of advanced clinical practice within the Urology service. For trainee ACPs, the role includes supported completion of an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and development towards independent practice.

Job description Job responsibilities

Provide autonomous advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with acute, elective and emergency urological conditions. Undertake comprehensive history taking, physical examination and clinical decision-making to develop evidence-based management plans. Request, interpret and act upon appropriate diagnostic investigations within scope of practice. Perform advanced clinical procedures relevant to urology, including catheter-related interventions and other agreed competencies. Work collaboratively with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and timely patient care across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory pathways. Coordinate patient care, facilitating efficient investigations, treatment, discharge planning and follow-up. Promote high-quality, patient-centred care through effective communication, shared decision-making and compassionate practice. Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative clinical pathways, service improvement initiatives and quality improvement projects. Participate in clinical audit, research and evidence-based practice to continually improve patient outcomes. Provide leadership, education and clinical support to colleagues and learners, contributing to the development of advanced clinical practice within the Urology service. Maintain professional competence, practising within the NHS England Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice and relevant professional standards. For trainee ACPs, successfully complete the Advanced Clinical Practice training pathway, including the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, with appropriate supervision and support.

Person Specification

0-2 Essential

Current professional registration with the relevant regulatory body (NMC, HCPC or GPhC as appropriate). Employed on, or eligible to undertake, an accredited Advanced Clinical Practice training pathway in accordance with Trust policy. MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or willingness to undertake and successfully complete the programme. Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment, history taking and clinical reasoning skills appropriate to advanced practice Sound knowledge of urological conditions, investigations and patient pathways across emergency, elective and outpatient settings. Significant post-registration clinical experience relevant to advanced practice. Experience working within a urology service or caring for patients with urological conditions. Experience managing patients across inpatient and/or outpatient pathways.

Desirable

In dependent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (or willingness to complete during training where appropriate to professional registration). Experience supervising, supporting or teaching other healthcare professionals or students. Experience of audit, research or service evaluation and implementing improvements in practice.
