Westlands Medical Centre has an exciting new vacancy for a Receptionist/Administrator to join our dynamic administrative team!

We are seeking an enthusiastic, professional, and patient-focused individual to become part of our busy and supportive team. This varied role combines reception, administrative, secretarial, and prescription duties, providing an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and external healthcare professionals, you will deliver exceptional customer service while supporting the efficient day-to-day running of the practice. In addition to managing appointments and patient enquiries, you will assist with a range of administrative and secretarial tasks, including processing correspondence, managing clinical documentation, supporting referral processes, and undertaking prescription-related administration in accordance with practice protocols.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage a varied workload while maintaining strict confidentiality. Previous experience within a GP practice, healthcare setting, prescription administration, or medical secretarial role would be desirable , although full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Job description Job responsibilities

Receptionist/GP administrator required. 36.5 hours per week, either 1 full time or 2 part time will be considered please let us know your choice when applying. Successful applicant must be flexible and available for overtime/holiday cover when needed.

The role of reception / administrator is mainly an administrative role, and requires excellent people-person and communication skills, due to the patient-facing nature of the role.

Duties and responsibilities of receptionists include, but are not limited to: appointments, handling telephone calls, document workflows, processing repeat prescription requests, completing tasks set by practice manager or doctors, opening/closing front doors, maintaining cleanliness of waiting area and consulting rooms, secretarial work and working collaboratively as part of our practice team.

The ideal candidate will have some experience of the NHS, however no previous GP surgery employment is required. Strong work-ethic, commitment to the role, flexibility and efficiency are key traits in a successful applicant.

Although you will be well-supported by our existing administrative and management team, you must eventually be able to work independently, autonomously, with a problem-solving and can-do attitude.

As the first port of call for our patients, a friendly and warm welcome and excellent communication skills are crucial to this role.

The surgery is fully computerised, so good IT and computer skills are a necessity. Successful applicants will be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, docman as well as emis (clinical system training provided).
