We are looking for a reliable and proactive Domestic Support Worker to join our team and help maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the practice.
The post is part time, 15 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 5am 8am each day.
About the Role
As a Domestic Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the practice environment is clean, safe, and well maintained for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work will help support the smooth running of clinical services by providing essential cleaning and domestic duties and will contribute to the overall patient experience and to high quality patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job
Clean and maintain all clinical and non-clinical areas in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025, including waiting rooms, consultation rooms, offices, toilets, kitchens, and corridors.Follow and be consistent with infection prevention control procedures, standards and requirementsFollow and be consistent with health & safety procedures, standards and requirementsFollow the agreed cleaning schedules, and use the correct cleaning methods for each area.Keep detailed and accurate cleaning records for audit and compliance purposes.Take part in cleanliness audits and contribute to action plans for improvement.Monitor and replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper.Dispose of clinical and general waste appropriately and in line with the Waste Management Policy.Report any maintenance issues or hazards promptly to the Operations Lead.Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are stored safely in compliance with COSHH, HASAW and other relevant legislation, and used correctly.Undertake legionella flushing of systems if required.

Duties and Responsibilities
The principal duties of a Domestic Support Worker may include any or all of the items listed below. The individual duties may vary from time to time in relation to the prevailing workload and staffing levels, and tasking will be under the direction of the Practice & Business Manager/Business & Finance Manager.
Clean and maintain all clinical and non-clinical areas in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025, including waiting rooms, consultation rooms, offices, toilets, kitchens, and corridors. Follow and be consistent with infection prevention control procedures, standards and requirements Follow and be consistent with health & safety procedures, standards and requirements Follow the agreed cleaning schedules, and use the correct cleaning methods for each area. Keep detailed and accurate cleaning records for audit and compliance purposes. Take part in cleanliness audits and contribute to action plans for improvement. Report any maintenance issues or hazards promptly to the Operations Lead. Support the team by being flexible with duties as required and providing cover for annual leave and sickness within the Domestic Support Worker Team. Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Good standard of written and spoken English. Willingness to undertake mandatory training (COSHH, infection control, manual handling).
Desirable
City & Guilds Level 2 in Cleaning Principles or equivalent qualifications. Evidence of health and safety or infection prevention training.
Experience Essential
Previous experience of working in a cleaning position (ideally in a healthcare environment). Ability to demonstrate safe, methodical cleaning practices. Experience of working independently and managing workload. Strong attention to detail. Ability to follow policies and procedures accurately. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage stock and resources effectively. Flexible, cooperative, and motivated approach. High levels of integrity, reliability and professionalism.
Desirable
Knowledge of COSHH and Health and Safety at Work regulations. Understanding of the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025. Awareness of infection prevention control practices. Awareness of the colour-coding system for cleaning equipment. Experience of maintaining cleaning records and following formal cleaning schedules. Previous experience of being responsible for unlocking and locking premises.
