About this role

Job Summary A Spur Industrial Field Superintendent is responsible for the on-site execution of structural steel frame and steel decking installation projects. This role leads field operations across multiple concurrent jobsites — directing crews, coordinating daily work sequences, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring all installed work meets project specifications and AISC quality requirements. On smaller crews, the Field Superintendent works alongside the team; on larger projects, the role is fully supervisory. The Field Superintendent serves as Spur's on-site representative and primary point of contact for clients, and partners closely with the Operations Manager to keep projects on schedule, on budget, and incident-free.

Functions and Responsibilities

• Manage field operations across multiple concurrent jobsites, maintaining consistent oversight of schedule, safety, quality, and crew performance at each.

• Lead field crews directly - supervising on larger projects and working alongside the crew on smaller ones as conditions require.

• Review project drawings, erection drawings, and specifications thoroughly prior to mobilization; ensure the crew has a complete understanding of scope and sequencing before work begins.

• Plan and communicate daily work assignments, sequencing, and priorities to crew members at the start of each shift.

• Enforce all Spur Industrial safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements; hold authority to stop work immediately when unsafe conditions are identified, without routing through the PM.

• Conduct regular toolbox talks, site safety inspections, and incident reporting in accordance with company protocols.

• Ensure all structural steel frame and decking installation meets project specifications and AISC quality standards; identify and resolve field non-conformances before they affect downstream work.

• Coordinate directly with the client's on-site representative and inspectors; maintain a professional, responsive presence on behalf of Spur Industrial throughout the project.

• Monitor daily and weekly progress against the project schedule; escalate delays, sequencing conflicts, or scope changes to the Operations Manager and Project Manager promptly.

• Identify and document conditions in the field that may constitute a change in scope; communicate to the Project Manager with supporting documentation before work proceeds.

• Make field-level spending decisions within established limits; track and report daily labor hours, material usage, and equipment time to support project cost tracking.

• Maintain accurate daily field reports documenting crew counts, work completed, equipment used, weather, and any incidents, observations, or open items.

• Coordinate material and equipment deliveries and staging to support uninterrupted field operations across all assigned sites.

• Ensure all field personnel receive a proper project orientation covering scope, safety expectations, and quality standards before beginning work.

• 3–5 years of field supervision experience in structural steel erection, steel framing, and/or steel decking installation

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret erection drawings, structural plans, and project specifications
