Our Ideal Candidate is…passionate about economics and economic policy. You should have a solid understanding of applied econometrics, data analysis tools and methods, and advanced communication skills. Our ideal Economist candidate has a master’s degree in economics, economic policy or similar field as well as two years’ work experience in a related role. Further, you should display mature judgment, be committed to high quality work, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This role requires intellectual curiosity, passion and commitment to an organization that values quality, creativity and thought leadership.
We are a virtual organization and as a remote worker you must be comfortable and able to work 100 per cent of the time from a home office in Canada. To be successful as a remote worker you need to have a self-starter attitude, possess strong organizational and time management skills and be a proactive communicator. Having a home office environment that provides for a productive, professional, and safe work environment during regular working/business hours is a requirement of this role. This includes internet service with a reliable connection.
About the Role
• Undertake economic and data analyses independently to produce high-quality work that is accurate, complete, and adheres to the prescribed methodology.
• Lead the writing of clear, impactful reports leveraging a variety of tools, including data visualizations.
• Support the development and customization of macroeconomic forecast models.
• Support research projects of varying complexity utilizing your knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
• Filter large amounts of research and stay current on issues affecting assigned areas of responsibility.
• Contribute to large research projects as part of a team of economists and other social science researchers.
• Support constructive and respectful client engagements by preparing meeting materials, contributing to methodological and planning discussions.
• Prioritize competing tasks and work effectively to meet deadlines.
• Consistently demonstrate professional values in all aspects of work and interactions with colleagues and clients.
• Contribute, as needed, to the development of research project proposals for internal and external audiences.
• Commitment to producing high-quality work and demonstrating professional values in all aspects of work and interactions with colleagues and customers.
About You
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Two years of professional experience in a related role as an economist or analyst.
• Masters in economics, economic policy, data science or similar field of study.
• Knowledge of and experience in the applications of statistics, econometric modeling, regression analysis, forecasting techniques, and statistical software packages.
• Experience working with R, Python and/or EViews.
• Strong research skills and a demonstrated proficiency in synthesizing complex concepts and information from a variety of sources.
• Advanced communication skills in English (both oral and written).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of internal and external contacts and customers.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment.
• Proficiency in French is an asset.

The hiring zone for this position is $67,320-$79,200 annually for candidates from any Canadian province or territory. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, specific skillsets, as well as market and business considerations. The full compensation band for this position ranges from $67,320-$91,080. The recruiter can share more information about compensation for the position during the hiring process.
