About this role
Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Executive Leadership | Shenandoah Valley, VA | On-Site, Full-Time | Travel up to 35%
Power Monitors, Inc. (PMI) designs, develops, and manufactures industry-leading power quality instrumentation used by electric utilities worldwide. For 40 years, we have built every product at our facility in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley—and we have never had a year like the one ahead. Three major product launches are in flight: the Seeker+ analyzer, the SVM Series monitor, and an extensively rewritten PQ Canvass cloud platform. Behind them stands Merlin, our AI-powered analysis engine—a product with the potential to redefine how the industry understands power quality data.
That is why we are hiring differently. We are not hiring a sales manager to run quotas, or a marketing manager to run campaigns. We are hiring the owner of PMI’s entire commercial engine—an executive who will command sales and marketing as one integrated function, report directly to our president, and be accountable for revenue across every product we make.
If you have spent years executing someone else’s go-to-market plan and believe you could design a better one, this is the opportunity to prove it.
Why This Role Exists
PMI is at a genuine inflection point. Four decades of customer trust and installed-base relationships now meet a product suite—AI analytics, cloud software, and next-generation instrumentation—capable of defining a new market category. Commercial strategy is not a support function here; it determines whether that opportunity is captured or squandered. We have concluded this responsibility belongs at the executive table, unified under one leader with real authority over both sales and marketing, not split across middle-management silos.
What You’ll Own
• Revenue—full ownership of PMI’s commercial targets across instrumentation hardware, PQ Canvass cloud subscriptions, and Merlin AI
• The launch calendar—commercial introduction of the Seeker+ (harmonics to the 75th order, spectral analysis to 150 kHz), the SVM Series (a category-disrupting price point against a legacy incumbent), and the extensively rewritten PQ Canvass platform
• Merlin go-to-market—positioning AI-powered power quality analysis for a traditionally conservative buyer audience, and pursuing platform, OEM, and white-label opportunities
• European market entry—researching, designing, and executing PMI’s first international expansion plan: market selection, channel strategy, regulatory path, and launch
• The sales organization—leading and coaching our territory sales team, setting pipeline discipline in HubSpot, and personally cultivating strategic enterprise accounts
• Marketing and brand—demand generation, content strategy, trade publications, and PMI’s presence at IEEE PES, DistribuTECH, and the industry events that matter
• Customer success and retention—turning a 40-year installed base into expansion revenue, referrals, and voice-of-customer insight
• Pricing, deal structures, and forecasting—for both transactional hardware sales and subscription software.
What You’ll bring
• 10+ years of B2B sales and marketing leadership with complex technical products, including 3+ years at a senior or VP level
• A track record of growing a commercial operation—not just running one—with the wins and scars to prove it
• Experience selling into utilities, industrial facilities, engineering firms, or adjacent energy markets
• Fluency in both relationship-driven hardware sales and modern SaaS go-to-market motion
• Comfort introducing genuinely new technology—AI/ML commercialization experience a strong plus
• International or European market development experience a significant plus
• Executive presence—credible in front of C-suite buyers, utility boards, and conference audiences
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred
What PMI Offers
• A genuine seat at the executive table of a profitable, founder-led company with 40 years of continuous operation—real authority over strategy, team, and budget
• Executive compensation: competitive base salary, performance bonus tied to revenue and growth milestones, and participation in PMI’s planned stock option program
• Full benefits: medical with company-funded HSA, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, and 529 college savings matching
• A market moment that comes along once in a career: a trusted 40-year brand, three simultaneous product launches, and the first AI engine of its kind in power quality—before competitors catch up
• The Shenandoah Valley: world-class outdoor recreation, historic towns, acclaimed universities, and an affordability that makes executive compensation go further than any major metro.
