About this role

Purpose

Under the direction of the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), the Fleet Manager holds the responsibility for the overall leadership, administration, coordination, and effective operation of Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council's (NSTC) fleet of vehicles and related equipment.

This position provides strategic and operational oversight of fleet planning, vehicle acquisition and disposal, preventative maintenance, repairs, licensing, insurance, fuel management, vehicle assignments, inspections and fleet records.

Responsibilities:

The Fleet Manager shall include, but are not limited to, the following duties:

• Fleet management oversite

• Provide overall leadership and direction for NSTC's fleet operations.

• Preventative Maintenance and Repair

• Develop, implement, and monitor preventative maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles.

• Vehicle Safety and Repair

• Ensure NSTC fleet operations comply with applicable provincial legislation, regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.

• Fleet acquisition and disposal

• Develop recommendations for the acquisition, replacement, leasing, and disposal of NSTC vehicles.

• Assist with budget and financial management

• Ensure that financial reporting is complete, accurate, and transparent.

• Insurance, Licensing and Documentation

• Coordinate fleet insurance requirements with the appropriate internal and external contacts.

• Staff Supervision and Leadership

• Provide leadership and supervision to Fleet Department employees, where applicable

• Vendor and Service Management

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with dealerships, mechanics, garages, insurance providers, suppliers, and other fleet-related vendors.

Qualifications

The Fleet Coordinator shall possess:

• Post-secondary education in Fleet Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Automotive Management, and/or a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in fleet operations, logistics, automotive service coordination, or a hands-on operational support role.

• Basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on capability (ie - executing minor vehicle adjustments, handling seasonal tire logistics, and deploying field equipment).

• Knowledge of preventative maintenance requirements and vehicle repair processes.

• Knowledge of applicable vehicle, transportation, safety, licensing, and insurance requirements.

• Comfort with extensive regional travel across the Algoma / North Shore territory.

• A valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G minimum) with a clean driving record is mandatory. A dedicated company truck is provided for all regional transit and field operations.

• Knowledge and understanding of working with First Nation communities. Familiarity with the North Shore member communities and the Robinson-Huron Treaty territory is highly valued.

Work Site Location

In consultation and approval by the CFO, the Fleet Manager will be provided with the flexibility of choosing the location that best supports productivity. This may be reviewed from time to time to ensure the successful delivery of services are being met. $85,000 - $95,000
