SUMMARY:
Lightserve's Electrical Power Solutions (EPS) is a leading Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) provider delivering distributed energy, power generation, battery energy storage (BESS), microgrid, and electrical infrastructure solutions. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Applications Engineering to lead the technical development and execution support of EPC projects throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to the Applications Engineering team responsible for conceptual design, project development, proposal support, equipment selection, utility interconnection coordination, technical risk assessment, and engineered construction deliverables. This role serves as the primary technical bridge between Business Development, Estimating, Operations, Procurement, and Customers, ensuring solutions are technically sound, commercially competitive, code-compliant, and executable.
The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in power systems, electrical distribution, power generation, energy storage systems, and utility interconnections, along with demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams. This individual must excel in a fast-paced EPC environment, balancing multiple projects while driving standardization, quality, and continuous improvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead and develop the Applications Engineering team supporting BESS, generator, microgrid, and electrical infrastructure projects from opportunity identification through project turnover to execution.
• Provide technical leadership during project pursuit activities, including conceptual design, feasibility evaluations, equipment selection, energy system architecture, and cost optimization.
• Partner with Business Development, Estimating and Execution teams to develop technically accurate and competitive proposals, scopes of work, single-line diagrams, site layouts, and engineering narratives.
• Establish and maintain company engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices across energy storage, generation, and electrical distribution projects.
• Oversee preparation and review of preliminary engineering deliverables, including:
• Single-line diagrams
• Equipment Site Layouts
• Load Flow Studies
• Ampacity analysis
• Short-circuit analyses
• Protection and coordination studies
• Arc flash studies
• Equipment specifications
• Utility interconnection support
• Permit and AHJ research
• Serve as technical authority for electrical system design, engineering calculations, and Professional Engineering review, signing, and sealing of projects where required.
• Coordinate with utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and external engineering partners regarding interconnections, permitting, and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with Project Management, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning teams to ensure design intent, constructability, schedule adherence, and successful project execution.
• Support vendor qualification, equipment evaluation, and technical procurement activities for generators, switchgear, transformers, BESS equipment, inverters, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Evaluate project technical risks and develop mitigation strategies related to scope, constructability, utility requirements, permitting, equipment lead times, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in customer meetings and serve as the technical lead during project development, design reviews, and solution presentations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase engineering efficiency, standardization, quality, and profitability.
• Mentor and develop engineering personnel while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.
• Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and operational performance assessments as required.
• Travel as needed to customer locations, project sites, vendor facilities, and utility coordination meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Education and Certifications:
• Electrical Engineering degree required.
• Valid Electrical Professional Engineering license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 4+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting power generation, distributed energy, utility, industrial, or EPC projects.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Generator systems (standby, prime, and paralleling)
• Microgrids
• MV and LV electrical distribution systems
• Utility interconnections
• Protective relaying and coordination
• Demonstrated experience supporting EPC project development and execution.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, NESC, and applicable utility standards.
• Experience preparing technical proposals and supporting customer-facing project development activities.
• Strong understanding of switchgear, transfer switches, protection systems, transformers, and distributed energy resources.
• Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a rapidly growing business environment.
• Experience with utility-scale and commercial/industrial BESS projects.
• Experience with renewable energy integration, solar plus storage, and microgrid systems.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection studies and processes.
• NCEES Record and the ability to obtain reciprocal PE licenses.
• Understanding of power markets, grid resiliency, and distributed energy resource applications.
• Experience with SEL protection systems and advanced control platforms.
