Hayloft Auctions is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Photography Intern to join our team. This part-time paid internship provides hands-on experience in a professional auction photography environment while working alongside and reporting to a DOYLE Photographer. The intern will gain experience photographing a wide range of one-of-a-kind auction items and learn professional studio, editing, and production workflows.
All necessary photography and studio equipment will be provided. Interns are not required to own or provide their own camera, lighting, or other photography equipment.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities
• Photograph auction items while learning how to create high-quality, accurate images that showcase details and unique features.
• Gain hands-on experience with product photography on white backgrounds, including lighting, positioning, exposure, composition, and consistency.
• Gain experience photographing jewelry, furniture, decorative arts, collectibles, and other auction property.
• Learn professional studio lighting and strobe photography techniques for objects of different sizes, materials, textures, and reflective surfaces.
• Gain exposure to professional photography and editing software, including Capture One, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Lightroom.
• Edit and optimize photographs for online auction listings, the Hayloft Auctions website, and promotional materials.
• Collaborate with the photography and cataloging teams to ensure accurate and visually appealing representations of auction items.
• Assist with organizing and managing the digital photo library, including file naming, organization, and image processing workflows.
• Assist with setting up and maintaining the photography workspace, including cameras, lighting, backgrounds, and other studio equipment.
Qualifications
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or coursework in photography, visual arts, digital media, or a related field.
• Intermediate proficiency with DSLR or mirrorless cameras, including a working understanding of manual exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focus, and basic camera operation.
• Experience with Capture One, Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Lightroom is preferred; additional training and exposure will be provided during the internship.
• Strong attention to detail and a creative eye for composition.
• Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in antiques, jewelry, furniture, vintage items, or collectibles is a plus.
• Able to lift 30 plus pounds.
