Information Technology Helpdesk Apprentice
PRIMARY OVERVIEW:
This is an entry-level apprenticeship role designed for an individual with a strong interest in supply chain management and logistics who is looking to start a career in this field. The Supply Chain Apprentice will support the day-to-day operations of the supply chain, including procurement, inventory management, and logistics coordination.
No prior professional experience is required as full training and support will be provided. What is absolutely required are a great attitude, shows up every day, is reliable, coachable and wants to contribute.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
This role is designed for someone starting from scratch. You are not expected to know everything — your attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn are far more important than experience. You will be supported and trained to build confidence and skills over time in:
• Fundamentals of supply chain management
• Basics of procurement and purchasing
• Inventory control and stock management
• Logistics and delivery coordination
• Professional communication and customer service skills
• Use of supply chain management software and databases
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily Supply Chain Support
• Assist with processing purchase orders and supplier invoices
• Support inventory checks and stock management
• Help coordinate deliveries and track shipments
• Respond to basic inquiries from internal departments or suppliers
• Escalate more complex issues to senior supply chain or procurement staff
Procurement & Inventory
• Help maintain accurate records of stock levels and orders
• Assist with supplier communications and follow-ups
• Support the preparation of procurement documentation
Logistics & Coordination
• Track and report on delivery schedules
• Help resolve minor delivery or stock discrepancies
• Assist with organizing storage areas and stockrooms
Learning & Development
• Take part in structured apprenticeship training
• Develop knowledge in procurement, inventory management, and logistics
• Work towards relevant supply chain or business qualifications as part of the apprenticeship
Participation in Committee Activities:
The employee, as part of his/her job description shall take part in the activities of any committee that he/she is assigned by his/her supervisor, and is expected to attend all scheduled meetings. The employee further agrees to be an active participant in assigned activities related to DH attaining and maintaining Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation.
On-Call Employee:
The Employee may on occasions be subject to “call out” and when called is required to respond within thirty minutes, and to report for duty at the Hospital within one hour of receiving the call, unless they have obtained approval to the contrary. All employees are expected to be available in the event of emergencies.
Failure to do so constitutes a serious breach of contract, which may lead to disciplinary action including termination of employment. Notwithstanding the preceding requirements, in accordance with the Labour Law, you shall not be required to be on duty more than six days in any seven-day period, unless mutually agreed by you and the department manager.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
• High School diploma preferred or equivalent.
• Basic computer literacy (e.g., email, Excel)
• Genuine interest in supply chain and logistics
• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Organized and detail-oriented mindset
• Ability to work in a confidential and professional environment
• Excellent telephone manner and customer service skills
• Professional appearance and conduct.
Desirable / Not required
• Basic knowledge of supply chain or business concepts
• Relevant school subjects or coursework
• Interest in the industry or sector of the organization
Additional Abilities:
• Commitment to completing apprenticeship training
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Flexibility to assist during busy periods or stocktaking
• Physical Abilities to complete job duties which include lifting (up to 45lbs), standing, walking, ability to push, pull, climb, stoop, kneel, reach overhead and rotate trunk for prolonged periods
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with other members of the team
Accountability:
The Supply Chain Apprentice reports to the Supply Chain Manager or the designate.
TRAVEL:
No travel off-island. However, as part of the training, the Supply Chain Apprentice is required to accompany the trainer on any given day between the Doctors Hospital, Doctors Hospital Warehouses, HSA, Health City, Cayman Medical Clinics, and or any Third-Party Shipper. Travel to Hardware Stores, IT Stores, and Office Supply Stores may also be required due to the needs of the Hospital Departments.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Office-based, warehouse
• Collaborative team with direct interaction with procurement, logistics, and operations staff
• Opportunities to participate in supplier meetings or site visits
• The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
