The Team

The Role
The Human Resources Student supports the Human Resources team with administrative coordination, recruitment activities, and employee experience initiatives. This developmental role provides hands-on exposure to human resources practices within a fast-paced construction environment while assisting with day-to-day HR operations.
The HR Student helps maintain employee records, support onboarding activities, coordinate HR programs, and assist with internal communications and projects. The role is designed to build foundational HR knowledge while contributing to team efficiency and service delivery.
Keys Tasks
The Human Resources Student’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Human Resources Administration
• Assist with maintaining accurate employee records and HRIS data entry.
• Support onboarding and offboarding activities including document collection, orientation scheduling, and checklist tracking.
• Help organize digital employee files in accordance with company policies and confidentiality standards.
• Provide administrative support for HR initiatives, events, and employee programs.
Recruitment & Talent Support
• Assist with posting job opportunities and monitoring applicant tracking systems.
• Help coordinate interviews, screening calls, and recruitment scheduling.
• Support resume reviews and recruitment documentation preparation.
• Assist with onboarding preparation including welcome packages and orientation materials.
HR Projects & Internal Communications
• Support the preparation of internal HR communications, recognition initiatives, and employee engagement activities.
• Assist with updating templates, forms, and HR resources.
• Help maintain HR standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation.
• Provide administrative support for training, development, and workforce initiatives.
Compliance & Confidentiality Support
• Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and organizational information.
• Support HR compliance tracking related to policies, training, and documentation requirements.
• Assist with data organization and reporting preparation as requested.
Education
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Enrollment in a co-op or internship program preferred.
Experience
• Previous administrative, customer service, or office experience considered an asset.
• Experience using Microsoft Office or collaboration platforms preferred.
• Exposure to HR coursework or volunteer HR activities is an asset.
Knowledge and Technical Skills
• Basic understanding of Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Human Rights Code, and workplace policies.
• Awareness of confidentiality requirements and ethical handling of employee information.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Interest in learning HRIS systems and HR administrative processes.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to interpret and follow established HR procedures and guidelines.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
• Primarily office-based role with prolonged computer use.
• Sitting for prolonged durations, especially when performing computer-based tasks.

• Performing tasks in a noisy environment.
• Manual dexterity for tasks such as typing and handling system-related tools or equipment.
