Job Summary
The Shift Leader oversees daily operations of the dog day-care and boarding facility, including staff supervision and performance, safety protocols, and training initiatives. This role supports a safe, organized, and high-quality environment for both animals and staff, working under the direction of the Resort Administrator.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Staff Supervision & Leadership
• Lead by example; participate in all operational tasks regularly.
• Conduct daily team huddles and ensure open, respectful communication.
• Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback in accordance with BFFE policies.
• Enforce company procedures and initiate disciplinary action as necessary.
• Support onboarding and ongoing training using the BFFE training checklist.
• Monitor staff interaction with dogs; provide daily feedback (~15–20 minutes per group).
Animal Care & Safety
• Ensure safe and appropriate care across day-care, boarding, ADW, ACC, and grooming.
• Administer medications and follow veterinary instructions as directed.
• Oversee dog evaluations, group placements, and documentation of behavior or health issues.
• Maintain accurate logs: health, behavior, transition lists, and training referrals.
• Liaise with pet owners on behavioral updates or concerns.
Facility & Operational Oversight
• Maintain cleanliness and ensure compliance with sanitation protocols.
• Monitor and report maintenance or equipment issues.
• Support inventory management and coordinate with vendors or service providers.
• Verify physical dog counts against system records throughout the day.
• Collaborate on process improvements with management.
Administrative Duties
• Complete shift reports, behavior/health logs, and staff checklists.
• Prepare daily group setups and communicate scheduling needs.
• Contribute to client-facing materials such as photos, report cards and social media updates.
Requirements
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously for most of the shift.
• Frequent squatting, kneeling, reaching, and lifting while managing animals and cleaning tasks.
• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions for 6 or more hours per day year-round.
• Regular exposure to wet or humid conditions and strong odors associated with animal care.
• Occasional exposure to airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, and loud noise levels.
• Tasks may include navigating uneven or graded terrain and lifting dogs of various sizes.
• Use of tool such as shovels, brooms, mops and sanitation equipment is required.
• Operate electronic systems (PC/mobile) to manage records and scheduling.
• Perform housekeeping and kennel sanitation duties.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and pet parents.
• Participate in resort operations across various workstations.
• Travel between location or to veterinary appointments as needed.
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6-months professional dog care experience preferred.
• Team Lead experience helpful.
• Strong communication, time management, multitasking, and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation.
