At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. More than 400 employees – including around 100 students – from over 50 countries work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams on the development of innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and hydrogen economy, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency. At present, our team consists of four employees. We ensure that our system test benches for the drivetrain of wind turbines operate reliably and that tests are carried out successfully. To achieve this, we integrate test specimens, take care of the measurement technology, and conduct the tests in close collaboration with our industrial customers. In addition, we advance drivetrain technology through our own research projects. Become an active member of the team; we are keen to hear your ideas! You are wondering what you can bring to the team? As part of our research project “VIB2SE”, various failure modes of electrical machines and their effects on vibration behavior are simulated. To this end, you will first adapt existing finite element models (FE) to represent mechanical faults. You will then implement a suitable interface to the FE model through which magnetic forces can be taken into account. Building on this, you will conduct a harmonic response analysis. What you contribute You are enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable engineering discipline. You have solid theoretical knowledge of electrical machines and the finite element method (FEM). You have also already gained practical experience with FEM, ideally using ANSYS? Depending on the type of employment, a different contract duration may apply. In case of a student assistantship, the working time consists of up to 80 hours per month. During an internship, the regular working time consists of 39 hours per week. In the case of a student assistantship, remuneration is based on the general works agreement for employing assistant staff. In the case of an internship, remuneration is based on the federal government guidelines for intern salaries.
