Summary This role provides technical support for company logistics systems and industry systems. Resonsible for the collection, review and analysis of transportation data and carrier proposals. Conducts cost studies to suport and validate carrier negotations around rates and provides cost/benefit analysis. Reports monthly operational and financial metrics. Provides training and peer leadership to transportation team. Ensures optimal use of company assets (owned or leased). Informs internal and external customers of status by written reports and oral communication. Analyzes daily information for service trends and develops proactive resolutions with carriers, plant yards and internal customers. Responsible for hazardous fleet deployment, maintenance and compliance testing. Available for on call duty as required. Key Responsibilities Perform qualitative and quantities analysis using a variety of tools to solve transportation related business problems. Gather, consolidate, prepare and/or validate data for analysis. Create and maintain metrics. Provide support for domestic freight RFPs and RFIs by preparing and maintaining the data. Support contract negotations by providing industry insights as well as summarizing carrier performance. Responsible for hazardous fleet deployment, maintenance and compliance testing. Provides timely, cost conscious car disposition, technical drawings and instructions to mobile vendors and shops. Responsible for maintaining and working effectively with the transportation system tools along with providing efficient data management and analytical solutions for day-to-day business as well as on-going projects. Manages and deploys company owned rail and truck assets including hazardous tanks. Collects daily rail car movement information from on-line tracing systems and communicates status to internal and external customers. Notes problem areas and communicates recovery plans to appropriate internal and external parties. Accountabilities include balancing seasonal car demand while meeting annual compliance requirements. Closely monitors customer orders and stock transfers to ensure optimal car placement. Tracks overall utilization and makes recommendations on car movement between specific fleets as appropriate. Serves as Subject Matter Expert on transportation system. Responsible to support plants with technical system issues. Serves as back up for rail car billing. Must ensure 100% accuracy in rail car billing to prevent Federal Rail and Public Utility violations. Typical Education Associate's Degree (A.A. or equivalent) Relevant Experience 3+ years related experience and/or training Other Information Requires a comprehensive knowledge of all transportation modes and distribution patterns for bulk shipments. Must have knowledge of production scheduling systems, plant operations, and safety requirements. Must be proficient with Microsoft software packages. Rail car expediting experience is a plus. Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Must exhibit excellent customer service attitude and be a team player. Must be able to work independently, have good problem resolution skills and excellent organizational skills. Must be able to work under pressure and demonstrate ability to meet deadlines with multiple projects. Must have the ability to complete complex assignments that are broad in nature and usually require originality and ingenuity. Must serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Requires ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions, Department of Transportation regulations and Bureau of Explosives Tariff.
