About this role
The Assistant Cheerleading Coach supports the head coach in developing and executing practice plans, choreography, and competition routines for the school's cheer program. This role also handles game‑day logistics, monitors athlete eligibility, and collaborates with the athletics department to promote a safe, successful, and academically compliant team environment.
• Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practice sessions • Help develop and teach cheer routines and stunts • Supervise athletes during practices and ensure safety protocols are followed • Coordinate game‑day cheer performances and equipment setup • Manage and maintain cheerleading equipment and uniforms • Track and verify student‑athlete eligibility and academic status • Communicate schedule changes and requirements to athletes and parents • Monitor athletes' academic progress and provide eligibility reminders • Attend coaching meetings, clinics, and professional development events • Promote team spirit, sportsmanship, and a positive learning environment
• High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or higher preferred) • Prior experience as a cheerleader or assistant cheer coach • Knowledge of eligibility rules and academic requirements for student‑athletes • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions • Current CPR and First Aid certification • Clear background check and child abuse clearance • Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor young athletes • Basic budgeting and equipment management experience • Familiarity with game‑day logistics and event coordination
