About this role
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technician assists in the preparation, processing, care and maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment, and functions as a member of the surgical team during operative procedures. The individual must know aseptic technique and be able to scrub independently in orthopedic procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon, and have knowledge in the sequencing of the surgical procedures.

• Demonstrates awareness of occupational hazards in the perioperative area. Passes sharps safety; ensures instruments are sprayed with enzymatic and prepared for return to SPD in a safe manner.

• Discusses how steam,gas, Sterrad (plasma) and cold sterilants are used to sterilize objects.
• Identifies criteria for choosing methodof sterilization.

• Always check for sterilization for turned outside and inside of set indicator of sterility.

Required Qualifications:
• Orthopedic experience working in an ambulatory surgery center
• Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
• High School Diploma or equivalent experience
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications:
• Surgical Technologist Certification • Completion of Surgical Technologist Program within past two years License/Certifications:
• Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
