Job summary
We require an organised and flexible individual to support reception duties within the Elective hub at the Royal Derby Hospital. This is a part time role, Wednesday - Friday 7am - 6pm.
You will be the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and visitors, delivering a courteous, compassionate, and efficient service within a busy and sometimes challenging environment.
Key responsibilities include patient registration, maintaining accurate records, responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries and supporting clinical staff.
The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
Visits to the department are welcomed.
Main duties of the job
You should have the ability to interact with patients and staff on a daily basis in an efficient and friendly way and stay calm in any situation. You will be responsible for ensuring that the correct information is recorded using a variety of IT systems, whilst dealing with a variety of queries. You must be motivated, have good communication, inter-personal and administration skills Maintaining a warm and welcoming reception area for patients. Using your initiative. Ability to multitask and think on your feet. Ability to use multiple computer systems. Liaising with patients, relatives and wider teams via telephone, email and face to face. Maintaining patient records, filing and scanning notes.

An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day.
