Job summary
We are looking for a friendly, approachable and enthusiastic Receptionist to join our busy and welcoming GP practice. This is an important role within the practice, providing the first point of contact for our patients and supporting the smooth running of our day-to-day services.
The successful candidate will be a good communicator, organised, reliable and able to work calmly in a busy environment. You will be joining a great team and will receive full training and guidance to help you develop within the role.
Main duties of the job
The Receptionist will provide a high-quality reception and administrative service to patients and the wider practice team. Main duties will include:
Welcoming and assisting patients in person and over the telephone.
Making and managing patient appointments.
Dealing with patient enquiries in a helpful and professional manner.
Processing prescription requests and other administrative tasks.
Signposting patients to the most appropriate service where required.
Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records.
Supporting GPs, nurses and other members of the practice team with administrative tasks.
Working as part of the wider reception and administration team to ensure the practice runs efficiently.
Following practice policies and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Experience Essential
Experience of working in a customer-facing or administrative role Good verbal and written communication skills Friendly, approachable and able to provide a high standard of customer service Able to work effectively as part of a busy team Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload Confident using computers, email and Microsoft Office Understanding of the importance of treating patients with dignity, respect and confidentiality Understands the importance of confidentiality and data protection. Able to remain calm and professional in a busy environment Able to use initiative and deal appropriately with routine problems Reliable, punctual and committed to the role Caring, patient, approachable, professional and positive attitude Willing to adapt to changing priorities and support colleagues when required

Previous experience within a GP practice, NHS or healthcare setting Experience communicating with a wide range of people Experience dealing with sensitive or difficult situations Experience working within a multidisciplinary team Experience using electronic appointment or administrative systems Experience using EMIS Web or other GP practice systems Experience working directly with patients Previous experience handling confidential or sensitive information Experience managing competing demands Experience resolving patient or customer queries
Qualifications Essential
Good standard of general education, including English and Math (A to C in English and Maths)
Desirable
NVQ Level 2/3 in Business Administration, Customer Service or equivalent.
