Challenge to Excellence Charter School (C2E), a high-performing, premier STEAM school in Douglas County, is seeking a dependable and enthusiastic In-House Substitute Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year.

C2E is an academically advanced K–8 charter school specializing in STEAM education. Our students benefit from a rigorous academic program, a supportive school community, and an effective one-to-one device program.

Position Specific Information (if Applicable): Position Overview The In-House Substitute Teacher provides consistent classroom coverage and supports a positive, safe, and productive learning environment throughout the school. This position requires flexibility, professionalism, strong classroom-management skills, and the ability to work effectively with students across multiple grade levels and subject areas.

Essential Responsibilities The successful candidate will support the mission and vision of C2E by:

• Implementing teacher-prepared lesson plans while preserving instructional time and encouraging student engagement

• Providing active supervision and support for students throughout each assignment

• Creating a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment

• Maintaining effective classroom management consistent with schoolwide expectations

• Taking attendance and maintaining other required classroom records

• Delivering instruction across a variety of grade levels, subjects, and courses

• Adapting instruction and support to meet students’ varying learning needs

• Following all school policies, procedures, schedules, and safety protocols

• Modeling professionalism and appropriate conduct for students

• Communicating relevant information about the day’s activities to the classroom teacher and school administration

• Supporting school operations through hallway supervision, cafeteria monitoring and cleanup, driveline duties, and other assigned responsibilities

• Completing additional duties as needed

Qualifications

• Valid Colorado Department of Education substitute authorization or license

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education is preferred

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Dependability, flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude

• Ability to manage classrooms and work effectively with elementary and middle school students

• Successful completion of required reference and background checks

• One to three years of substitute-teaching or related school experience preferred

Responsibilities:

--- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures, maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school, and apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.

--- Serve as an integral part of the school and the school community, performing certain duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and supporting certain extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations, participating in department and school meetings, and parent meetings.

--- Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

--- Utilize new teaching methods and educational tools in an ever-changing and strategic environment. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

--- Utilize technology and integrate the use of technology to provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities, instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, observe, evaluate, encourage and provide feedback on student's performance and development.

Position Type: Charter School Primary Location: Challenge To Excellence Charter School One Year Only (Yes or No): No Scheduled Hours Per Week: 40 FTE: 1.00 Approx Scheduled Days Per Year: 185 Work Days • (260 days indicates a year-round position. Time off [or Off-Track Days] are then granted based on the position. Any exceptions to the normal off-track time will be noted in the Additional Position Details section above, as scheduled work days.) Minimum Hire Rate: $90.00 USD Daily Maximum Hire Rate: $170.00 USD Daily Full Salary Range: $90.00 USD - $190.00 USD Daily • All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE. Benefits: This position is eligible for voluntary 401(k), 403(b) and 457 retirement plans.
