Mechanical TechnicianCOMPETITION #26CU69EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Regular FTCOMPENSATION: $45.53/hour total, comprised of a $42.55/hour base rate plus a 7% market alllowance(CUPE 339 2026 PG 12)LOCATION: On-SiteDAYS: Monday to FridayHOURS:7:00 AM - 3:30 PM - On-call will be required from time to timeBENEFITS: Full benefits package: EHC, Dental, Sick Leave, Employee Assistance Program, etc. BC Municipal Pension Plan POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Manager of Fleet and the direction of the Lead Hand, the Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all City of Nelson vehicles and equipment. QUALIFICATIONS:Grade 12 or GED (General Equivalency Diploma).Red Seal Certified as an Automotive Technician, Heavy Duty Technician, or Commercial Transport Technician.Preferred Qualifications: Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Program Certificate or working towards. Valid Class 3 BC Drivers License with air brake endorsement or working towards. 1 year of recent experience in gas and electric welding, wire feed welding, hydraulics and operating heavy equipment. 1 years recent related experience with computerized diagnostic equipment.SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Physical ability to perform the duties of the position Ability to interact with other employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to operate related equipment Ability to work in a computerized environment Ability to organize work Familiarity with related municipal policies and procedures Familiarity with City of Nelson/municipal and Worksafe BC safety proceduresWe look forward to hearing from you!Interested internal applicants should reference the position name and position number #26CU69 when submitting their application to [email protected]
