About this role

Role Description

As our People Business Partner, you will be a trusted advisor and coach to managers supporting our hourly, shift-based, in-person workforce — helping them lead well, navigate tough moments with sound judgment, and build a team where people want to stay. You'll bring both strategic thinking and hands-on partnership to the table, balancing employee experience, business needs, and risk as our backup work continues to grow. This is a role for someone who thrives close to the work and wants real ownership over how people are supported.

You will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business, as well as peers on the broader people team.

You will report directly to the Director of People, II.

Serve as the primary People Business Partner for our in-person backup care work, developing a deep understanding of its operations and supporting the unique needs of an hourly, shift-based, and in-person workforce. Partner with and coach managers across employee relations, performance management, feedback, team dynamics, organizational decisions, and other day-to-day people matters. Independently navigate complex and sensitive employee situations, including investigations, corrective action, performance improvement, accommodations, and separations, balancing employee experience, business needs, consistency, and risk. Partner with leaders on workforce planning, staffing, retention, turnover, and organizational changes, using People data and workforce trends to identify risks and recommend practical solutions. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour requirements, and ensure policies, practices, systems, and documentation remain accurate and compliant. Support the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, benefits, leaves, accommodations, engagement, performance management, and offboarding, partnering with vendors and administrators as needed. Support broader People priorities across Wellthy, including organizational changes, integrations, and evolving business needs. May mentor and manage junior team members. Take on additional responsibilities as needed to advance our vision, achieve our mission, and embody our organizational values.

Qualifications

Open to learning, experimenting, and evolving. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 4+ years of HR Generalist, People Business Partner, or related experience. Experience supporting an hourly, shift-based, and in-person workforce, with strong understanding of the unique People needs of frontline teams. Experience with employee relations, performance management, benefits, leaves of absence, and other employee lifecycle matters. Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations; experience supporting a multi-state workforce, particularly CA, CO, WA, and/or NY, is a plus. Strong judgment, relationship-building, and communication skills with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive People matters. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively during moments of urgency and change. Curious, resourceful, and solutions-oriented with a willingness to jump in wherever needed and learn new technologies and ways of working. Proven ability to work effectively in a remote Mac environment while supporting distributed and in-person teams. Experience with Greenhouse, Google Workspace, Lattice, Rippling, Slack, international workforces (UK/CAN), and/or SHRM/HRCI certification is a plus.
