Location: Warehouse Hours: 8 Hours Per Day, 260 Days Per Year; Swing Shift During the School Year – Day Shift During the Summer Salary: $36.02 - $37.62 Open Date: 08/25/2026 Application Deadline/Close Date: 08/31/2026 at 10:00PM, OR until filled. JOB DESCRIPTION The person in this position will be required to apply varnish, shellac, stain, enamel, lacquer, water seal, rust-proofing agents and oil-based, latex, or elastomeric paint to protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, furniture, cabinetry, machinery, equipment, vehicles, and other fixtures of buildings or structures using various equipment and climb ladders and scaffolds. They will also tape, texture and finish sheetrock walls and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
• Must have three to five years of experience performing as a Journeyman grade Painter, Mudder and/or Taper, or acceptable alternative experience as approved by the Kennewick School District.
• Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under the headings “Essential Duties and Responsibilities”, General Requirements”, “Physical Demands”, and “Work Environment”.
• Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a clear driving record. (Applicant will be required to provide a current abstract of their driving record.)
• Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
• Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS)
• Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to evaluate and repair multiple building materials.
• Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
• The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety; read and interpret plans, construction drawings, and blueprints
• Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendation.
• Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize to meet the district's needs and deadlines.
• Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed, and make cost estimates for projects

• Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
• Physically able to do the required work, including heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs., squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Read work orders and determine proper course of action to be taken or receive instructions from supervisor or lead-person regarding painting projects and needs.
• Calculate quantities of materials needed based on product coverage and size of area to be coated.
• Smooth surfaces and remove old paint from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting.
• Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler.
• Mud, tape, sand, and texture sheetrock and prepare for finish coatings.
• Determine appropriate surface preparation procedures, and prime-coat material(s) to be used, based on construction of surface, condition of surface, and type of existing coating(s).
• Apply texture and acoustic material by hand or with the use of a mechanical or pressurized gun.
• Select premixed paints, or mix required portions of pigment, oil, thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
• Remove fixtures such as pictures and wall hangings, clocks, electrical switch or receptacle cover plates, molding, and trim pieces, or covers and housings for bells, thermostats or other devices and controls from walls prior to painting.
• Spread drop-cloths over floors, room furnishings, and electronic equipment, and cover surfaces such as baseboards, door frames, windows and trim pieces with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
• Paint surfaces with brushes, compressed air or airless spray guns, spray cans or paint rollers, maintaining clean sharp edges.
• Pour premixed paint or lacquer into reservoir of spray machine. Select appropriate nozzle tip for proper application of various materials. Adjust machinery to attain specified spraying pressure, distribution pattern and thickness of material.
• Prepare pressure sprayers by coupling hose to machine and spray guns. Tend to machinery equipped with compressed air spray nozzles that coat structures or products with various types of materials and coatings, or that clean surfaces prior to coating. Clean up machinery, filters, hoses, etc. for storage when finished.
• Simulate wood grain, marble, brick, or their effects and applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
• Erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level. Work from scaffolding, ladders, man-lift, or boom truck as required.
• Wash surfaces by hand, or with a power sprayer, prior to painting. Mix mold/mildew inhabitants in the wash water or apply them directly to surface as directed.
• Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures.
• Perform other maintenance duties as required and assists other crafts as requested or assigned by the Building and Grounds Manager.
• Provide assistance to and/or coordinate with other employees and trades in order to accomplish the highest possible quality and quantity of work in the least amount of time, without causing undue hardship for other craftsmen or shops.
• Submit finished work orders promptly; complete with all hours worked and related costs.
• Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
• Assist in the creation and implementation of a calendar-based preventative maintenance system.
• Enters time and materials into electronic work order system.
• Generates work orders for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, or technical manuals and procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or individuals representing managers, customers, and the general public.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages, discounts, proportions, area, circumference, and volume.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in diagram form. Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
