PUTNAM COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT PARAPROFESSIONAL, CLINIC ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Have 48 hours of college courses, OR 2) Have at least an associate's degree, OR 3) Received passing score on ETS ParaPro Assessment 4) Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross 5) Satisfactory criminal background check KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1) Demonstrate good attendance and punctuality 2) Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills 3) Knowledge of current technology, as job appropriate 4) Maintain competencies of position by taking workshops as provided by PCSD 5) Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers, and applications 6) Ability to understand physical, health, and emotional behaviors and challenges of students 7) Ability to work independently to provide care to students under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse 8) Ability to handle material and people by lifting, pushing, bending, or stretching 9) Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED, medication administration, and student specific training required 10) Create and maintain a clean, orderly, safe and efficient clinic environment REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL Provide first aid and health care to students in a safe manner that supports the goals of the District. SUPERVISES: N/A PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Provide health care, treatment and medication administration to students under the direction and training of the Registered Nurse per Florida State Statue and the Putnam County School Board Guidelines. 2) Perform clerical duties related to health services. 3) Conduct health screening procedures as directed by the school nurse, such as vision, height, weight, lice and scoliosis screenings. 4) Maintain accurate health records for students to include documentation of services/treatment and emergency card review. 5) Collaborate with school personnel, nurses, and parents to ensure that the medical needs of all students are addressed. 6) Observe and report to the school nurse, guidance counselor, and school administrator any unusual physical or behavioral conditions of a student. 7) Maintain knowledge of blood borne pathogens and practice Universal Precautions to ensure optimal communicable disease control in the school clinic setting, to include biohazardous waste management. 8) Maintain the clinic area in a neat and clean manner. 9) Assure at all times that medications are secure and properly stored. 10) Perform and document specialized student services established for the purpose of the Medicaid Certified School Match Program. 11) Attend trainings and participate in meetings designed to enhance knowledge of current Health Services policies and protocols. 12) Observe confidentiality of students and student records at all times. 13) Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification. 14) Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium work. Position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in medium work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Job Description Supplement Code: 10 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. Position is ten months; eight hours per day.
