District Overview: The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located a few miles north of Boston and accessible by the MBTA orange line train. Malden's student body comprises approximately 6,100 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. Approximately 18 percent of Malden students have a disability and roughly one-third are English learners. The district includes seven schools: one comprehensive high school, five K to 8 schools, and an early learning center that serves preschool students with disabilities alongside typical peers. • Perform all statutory duties of Supervisor of Attendance role
• Maintain active relationships with all school principals
• Provide admninstration and school committee with monthly student attendance reports, reports of chronic tardiness, court appearance on behalf of Malden Public Schools
• Organize and participate in ad hoc committees designed to improve student attendance
• Build positive relationships with students and families
• Make home visits to verify families' valid residency within the City of Malden
• Prepare and present documents in juvenile court as necessary for Child Requiring Assistance (CRA) hearings
Qualifications:
• Certified or certifiable as a Supervisor of Attendance
• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 5 years experience as a teacher, social worker, counselor or court-related work
• Have a valid driver's license
• Have a working personal vehicle available for their daily use
• Evidence of skills in writing and public presentations
• Some knowledge of court and legal system preferred
• Ability to speak a second language preferred
