About this role

Position Title: METCO Instructional and Transportation Assistant Primary Purpose The METCO Instructional and Transportation Assistant (ITA) is part of the METCO and Lincoln instructional team and provides instructional and transportation support and guidance to students. The METCO ITA is also responsible for other duties as assigned by the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator, METCO Director, and School Principal (e.g., recess supervision, lunch supervision, substitute teaching, in-class support, METCO Program tasks, etc.). Contractual Relationship The METCO Instructional and Transportation Assistant (ITA) is employed by the district through yearly appointments and is compensated in accordance with hourly rates established by the School Committee. Organizational Relationship The METCO Instructional and Transportation Assistant (ITA) reports to the METCO Director, the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator, and School Principal. Responsibilities 1. Serves as the Bus Monitor on morning and afternoon bus routes: From Boston to Lincoln in the morning, and then from Lincoln to Boston in the afternoon. 2. Provides guidance and redirection to students during the morning and afternoon bus routes. 3. Maintains discipline notes and records on morning and afternoon bus routes. 4. Follows proper communication and safety protocols, as outlined by the METCO Director, during and after bus routes, as needed. 5. Under the direction of the METCO Director and the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator, provides instructional assistance to students, individually and in small groups. 6. Supports the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator by preparing instructional materials, performing clerical tasks, and maintaining student records. 7. Supervises students at recess, during lunch, and during transitions. 8. Accompanies and supervises students on field trips. 9. Assists with and performs other tasks assigned by the METCO Director and the K-8 METCO Academic and Enrichment Coordinator. 10. Follows all district policies and protocols. Required Qualifications 1. High school diploma. 2. Ability to communicate clearly, maintain confidentiality, flexibility and dependability. 3. Strong interpersonal skills and work habits. Preferred Qualifications 1. Experience working with children and young adolescents. 2. Experience working in a school setting. 3. College/university coursework.
