GROUNDS TECHNICIAN QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.

• Possession of a High School Diploma or GED.

• Knowledge and ability to operate hand tools, electrical and gasoline tools, lawnmowers, tractors, weedeater, and other machines.

• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

• Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor FLSA Status: Nonexempt JOB GOAL: To help maintain all facilities and grounds owned or operated by the district in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

• Attend on a regular and predictable basis.

• Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.

• Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.

• Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.

• Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Grounds at all schools to be cut and trimmed during growth season every one (1) to three (3) weeks depending on weather conditions.

• Stumps, low limbs, unwanted or damaged plant growth should be cut and removed from the site in a timely fashion.

• A rotating schedule will be set up so all schools will get equal service. Notify school officials as to the date their school grounds will be cut, so the school staff can trim next to the buildings at the same time.

• Some occasional spraying will be necessary.

• Excavating work as required.

• Lagoons will be cut once every four (4) to six (6) weeks. Some tree trimming and edging will be required to maintain these areas.

• During rainy days, the off season, emergency situations, or on days the technician is caught up, he/she will move into or around buildings to be assigned tasks by the Maintenance Supervisor that may include but not limited to:

• Changing all light bulbs in gymnasiums once per year.

• Checking periodically for blown light bulbs.

• Checking ballasts, switches, plugs, etc.

• Painting outside as needed.

• Make walk through inspections of all restrooms to make sure they are always in good repair.

• Pickup and delivery of school mail.

• Pickup and delivery of warehouse materials

• It is the Building and Grounds Technician's responsibility to do a visual check anytime he/she is in and around schools, to look for things that are damaged, unsafe, and/or look in need of repair or to be replaced. He/She should report these items via a maintenance report form to the Maintenance Supervisor.

• This primary job description is subject to change or adjustment depending on existing conditions as determined by the Maintenance Supervisor, Asst. Superintendent of Operations, and/or Superintendent.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy and negotiate. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a twelve-month position (242 days). Salary is based on current salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
