LOUISVILLE CITY SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Monitor/Study Hall/ISS Reports to: Building Principal Description: Monitor students in study hall/ISS; take attendance of students in study hall/ISS; assist study hall/ISS students as needed NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Essential Functions:

• Ensure safety of students

• Assist administration in identifying attendance or tardiness problems

• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information

• Attend meetings and in-services as required

• Promote good social relationships between students

• Interact with classroom teachers and administrators

• Maintain records of student behavior

• Instruct students on rules and consequences of study hall/in-school suspension

• Monitor hall during change of class

• Monitor students in study hall/in-school suspension

• Take student attendance in study hall/in-school suspension

• Assist students, as needed, in study hall/in-school suspension

• Promote good public relations

• Works with students both individually and in small groups

• Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, parents, and community

• Knowledge of computer skills, emails, and spreadsheets

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with restroom breaks/lunch

• Supervise general housekeeping duties

• Handle correspondence with administration

• Keep records up-to-date

• Monitor and supervise students during dismissal

• Distribute assigned writing material

• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner

• Perform other duties as assigned by the administration

• Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens

Qualifications:

• One year related experience

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to work effectively with others

• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing

• Effective active listening skills

• Basic training in first aid

• CPR preferred

• Organizational and problem solving skills

Additional Working Conditions:

• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue

• Frequent interactions with unruly children

• Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled work days, except calamity days

• Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop, kneel, and climb

• Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds

• Complies with all Louisville Board of Education policies and procedures
