About this role
The Maintenance and Operations Department is in need of a Clerical Substitute to cover a long-term security dispatch position. The selected individual must be able to commit to the assignment for several months to ensure adequate training and continuity of support. Please note that this assignment is dependent on the needs of the department and may end earlier than anticipated. The long-term substitute schedule at this time is as follows:
• Monday: 11:00 PM–7:00 AM (graveyard)
• Tuesday: 11:00 PM–7:00 AM (graveyard)
• Wednesday: Off
• Thursday: Off
• Friday: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
• Saturday: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
• Sunday: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
DEFINITION: Under supervision, performs work operating District central station security system; monitors, programs and administers functions related to all District intrusion alarm systems; exercises independent judgment in making decisions on a variety of problems in accordance with established procedures, and performs related work as required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
• Monitors and administers the activities of all District security systems via District central station monitoring equipment
• Dispatches and directs District personnel and/or police services personnel to alarm/intrusions situations
• Relays programming changes necessary to adjust to circumstances
• Arms and disarms zones, partitions and systems as required or directed
• Activates/deactivates personal identification numbers as directed
• Changes alarm account information
• Collects and prepares data for reports
• Accesses database and provides various reports in various formats as needed
• Receives and dispenses information to authorized users and the general public
• Logs and documents site system problems and complaints
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to two years' experience in general officer or security operations work. Knowledge of:
• General office procedures
• Security operations
• Purpose, function and practices of the Operations Department
• Functions of school sites and other District departments
Skill in:
• Operating a computer and software
• Responding to potentially demanding situations
• Dealing tactfully and effectively in person and on the phone
• Maintaining records and preparing reports
• Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships
Ability to:
• Work independently
• Work rotating shifts
Licenses and Certificates:
• A valid California driver's license
