Watson Chapel School District CAFETERIA WORKER Purpose Statement The job of Cafeteria Worker was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the food service activities at assigned location including:
• preparing and serving food items to students and/or school personnel; and
• maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.
This job reports to the Cafeteria Manager. Essential Functions
• Attends in-serving training, workshops, etc. are required by the Cafeteria Manager or Child Nutrition Director.
• Cleans utensils, equipment, and storage, food preparation and serving area.
• Evaluates prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature.
• Inventories food, condiments and supplies.
• Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition.
• Assists manager in counting and recording the amount of leftovers, number of opened cans, etc.
• Prepares and serves food based on provided menu and recipes for students and staff.
• Performs functions of other nutritional services positions as required by manager.
• Receives food items and/or supplies and places them in designated areas utilizing temperature requirements and food spoilage guidelines.
• Reports needed supplies and equipment malfunctions for the purpose of notifying cafeteria managers of needed items and repair and/or replacement.
• Serves the appropriate number of food items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Performs job duties with respect for coworkers, students and staff.
Other Functions
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Cafeteria workers are required to follow safety practices; quality cooking; and operating kitchens equipment. Cafeteria Workers may be required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions. They are required to follow procedures for safety and sanitation; and quantity food preparation and handling. Cafeteria Workers are required to use kitchen equipment. They must be flexible in working with a diversity of individuals. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others. Working Environment Cafeteria Workers may be required to perform the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Experience No job related experience is required. Education High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Clearances Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
