Job SummaryAbout the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Medicine, Early Intervention Services (EIS) at Yokota Air Base, Japan. Incumbent serves as a Speech/Language Pathologist for Early Intervention Services (EIS) of the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) program, providing services to eligible infants/toddlers and their families under Department of Defense (DoD) criteria. QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Degree: A graduate or higher level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Certification: Current National Certification of Clinical Certification: Current National Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)) is preferred. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for eligible infants or toddlers and their families, providing Early Intervention Services education to medical professionals, patients, or patient family members, participating in Child Find activities to refer children for evaluation; and identifying developmental delays in infants using standardized assessments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Major DutiesServe as a Speech/Language Pathologist for Early Intervention Services (EIS) of the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) program.Collaborate in an interdisciplinary team, including the parents, for the development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).Provide or coordinate a range of services and supports designed to ensure and enhance children’s personal development and resilience, strengthen family competencies, and promote the social and cultural inclusion of families and children.Perform Child Find, Screening, and Evaluation Services to identify children in the local EDIS Area of Responsibility (AOR) who may require EIS.Serve as service coordinator for families and as liaison to school-based or other community-based service delivery programs.Participate in the Local Inter-component Coordinating Council (LICC) to facilitate the development of community resources and programs that enhance the quality of life for families of children with special needs.
