Job SummaryAbout the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), United States (U.S.) Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.

QualificationsCut-Off Dates: Applications will be reviewed and referred for selection at periodic cut-off dates. The first cut-off will be September 4, 2026. Applicants whose application packages are received by the cut-off date will be considered first. Applicants whose application packages are received after the cut-off date and prior to the closing date will only be considered if the supply of candidates is exhausted and/or there are additional vacancies to fill. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Fabric Worker (Tailoring)~ without more than normal supervision. (1) measuring, marking and altering tailored uniform garments; (2) following instructions to carry out basic garment repairs; (3) operating standard sewing equipment; and (4) using basic measuring devices/tools such as flexible measuring tapes, straight and curved rulers, protractors, etc. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Measurement and Layout Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stand at work tables to measure and mark materials; sit for long periods while operating sewing machines or doing hand sewing. Continually uses arms, hands and fingers for using tools, pulling and positioning materials, and sewing. Often does considerable stooping and bending. Handle rolls of material or garment pieces that are consistently heavy and bulky. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Shop is adequately lighted, ventilated and heated. Incumbent is subject to cuts, scratches, bruises and other minor injuries or irritation from handling tools. Incumbent is also subject to irritation caused by dyes, dust and lint from fabrics. Incumbent is exposed to loud noises from sewing machines in the work area.

Major DutiesMake, modify and repair specialized types of garments for the United States Military Academy.Measure pieces, mark garments to indicate required alterations, and alter or repair coats, jackets, and other tailored items, which require precise shaping and finishing.Custom fit and tailor various items of the cadet uniform, e.g., long overcoat, full dress coat, dress coat and parka.Perform braiding, machine basting, setting sleeves and collar by machine, and other specialized tasks as required.
