Job SummaryThe Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the National Museum of African Art Museum (NMAFA).

QualificationsExperience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as planning, coordinating, and implementing audience-centered visitor services and engagement strategies for public programs within a museum, cultural institution, or similar organization; managing academic appointment programs; and leading community engagement activities and volunteer docent programs in a public-facing organization. Your resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position. Major DutiesThe Visitor Services Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing daily operations in the museum's public spaces, including volunteer recruitment, training, evaluation, and management; disseminating information to staff and visitors; supporting events and programming teams to create a positive onsite visitor experience; and performing related financial and administrative duties. In this position, you will: Plan, coordinate, and implement all elements of visitor services, consisting of operations policies, procedures and protocols, accessibility, audience evaluations, and other activities to provide services and assistance to the visiting public. Manage front and back-end requirements supporting internships and/or fellowships at the museum. Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the skill and effectiveness of staff and volunteers who interact with museum visitors.RequirementsConditions of Employment Qualification requirements, including one year time-in-grade at the next lower grade level for promotion candidates, must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date.
