Scope of duties · Work on the Collaborative Research Centre project (SFB) “Thromboinflammatory mechanisms of pancreatitis progression and associated splanchnic and portal vein thrombosis” · Investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms that link pancreatic inflammation, coagulation and thrombotic complications · Study the role of platelet–neutrophil interactions and sphingolipid metabolism in acute and acute-on-chronic pancreatitis · Plan and perform experimental studies using cellular systems, patient-derived biosamples and established preclinical models of pancreatitis · Apply modern molecular, biochemical and cell biological methods, including cell culture, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, RNA and protein analysis and functional cellular assays · Contribute to the characterization of inflammatory, thrombotic and metabolic pathways using proteomic, lipidomic or transcriptomic approaches · Participate in the development and validation of targeted therapeutic strategies, including nanoparticle- and aptamer-based delivery approaches · Quantitatively analyze, interpret and document experimental and clinical research data · Collaborate closely with scientists, clinicians and technology platforms within the interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centre · Present research findings at internal meetings and national and international scientific conferences and contribute to scientific publications Our requirements · A successfully completed university degree, preferably a Master’s degree or equivalent, in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, biotechnology, pharmacy or a related life-science discipline · Strong interest in translational research, inflammation, pancreatitis, vascular biology or immunology · Practical experience in molecular and cell biology, for example mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, microscopy, immunoblotting, quantitative PCR or functional cellular assays · Previous experience with primary cells, patient samples, animal models, proteomics, lipidomics, nanoparticles or drug-delivery systems is an advantage, but not mandatory · Motivation to learn new experimental technologies and quantitative analysis methods · A careful, structured and reliable approach to experimental work · Scientific curiosity, high motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team · Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary and international research environment · Very good written and spoken English · German language skills are not required Our offer · An innovative PhD project within an interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centre at LMU University Hospital · A translational research environment combining experimental pancreatitis research, vascular biology, immunology and clinical medicine · The opportunity to work with patient-derived biosamples, established disease models and modern molecular and imaging technologies · State-of-the-art laboratories and access to advanced flow cytometry, microscopy, proteomics, lipidomics and data-analysis platforms · Close collaboration with basic scientists, clinician scientists, bioinformaticians and experts in vascular and inflammatory biology · Integration into a highly collaborative national research network with opportunities for scientific exchange across several disciplines · Structured scientific supervision and support for professional and personal development · Opportunities to participate in scientific workshops, training programmes and national and international conferences · A supportive and inspiring working environment that encourages scientific independence and the development of new ideas · Employment according to the German public-sector collective agreement, including annual leave and additional benefits in accordance with the applicable regulations · The position is initially limited to three years.
