*ABOUT THE ROLE*
Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the ideal candidate will play a critical role in overseeing contractor work, performing basic maintenance tasks (plumbing, carpentry, minor repairs), and coordinating staff training and support. This role involves developing and maintaining comprehensive maintenance and fleet records, managing insurance and ICBC claims for SFN vehicles, and ensuring preventative maintenance and safety compliance across all facilities. Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and technical trade knowledge are essential.
*DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*
· Coordinates and oversees the work of contractors retained by SFN, as directed by the Public Works and Capital Projects Coordinator and the Housing Specialist.
· Manages all aspects of assigned projects, including budget estimation, preparing quotation documents and contracts, overseeing contract execution, and conducting final inspections.
· Performs basic maintenance tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, and minor repairs, as needed to ensure the facilities remain functional and safe.
· Develops and maintains comprehensive paper and electronic maintenance records, including, Water, sewer, and solid waste management records, Operational maintenance schedules for assigned buildings, Maintenance records for Public Works, Fisheries, and Housing fleet vehicles and equipment.
· Implement preventative maintenance measures and ensures that all maintenance work and repairs are executed promptly.
· Ensures vehicles and equipment are in safe operational condition and function efficiently.
· Monitors and conducts regular maintenance for equipment and buildings across all SFN facilities, effectively communicating maintenance requirements to facility managers and janitorial staff.
· Coordinates SFN projects, such as spring cleanup, brush cutting, gutter cleaning, and snow and ice removal, and addresses canine-related complaints.
· Promotes a safe work environment by implementing corrective measures for near misses and accidents.
· Oversees the overall management of SFN?s vehicle fleet, ensuring vehicles are maintained in a safe and efficient operational mode.
· Coordinates the scheduling of regular maintenance and inspections for all SFN vehicles to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
· Manages and coordinates the insurance of all SFN vehicles and handles ICBC claims as needed to maintain compliance and ensure timely processing.
· Develops and maintains comprehensive records of vehicle registration, insurance, maintenance history, and repair logs.
· Schedules and oversees necessary vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance work, coordinating with internal staff and external contractors as needed.
· Ensures vehicles are equipped with appropriate safety equipment and maintains required operational standards.
· Responds to emergency vehicle issues to minimize operational downtime.
