Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and provide nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborn infants.

• Perform comprehensive maternal and newborn assessments and document findings accurately.

• Monitor patients for complications and communicate changes in condition to the healthcare team.

• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed.

• Support breastfeeding and provide lactation education and assistance.

• Educate patients and families regarding postpartum recovery, newborn care, safe sleep practices, feeding, and discharge instructions.

• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.

• Promote patient safety and infection prevention practices.

• Respond appropriately to maternal and neonatal emergencies.

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.

• Provide emotional support and compassionate care to patients and their families.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure & Certification

• Current New York State Registered Nurse license required.

• Current BLS Certification required.

• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification preferred or required within designated time frame.

• ACLS certification preferred.

Experience

• Previous Mother-Baby, Postpartum, Labor & Delivery, Newborn Nursery, or Women's Health experience preferred.

• New graduates may be considered based on organizational requirements.

• Knowledge of maternal-newborn nursing practices and standards of care.

• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to provide patient and family education in a compassionate and culturally sensitive manner.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.

• Ability to safely assist and transfer patients.

• Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
