About this role
Responsibilities
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate games and activities for birthday party groups
• Build and adapt lesson plans to suit different age groups, group sizes, and requested party themes
• Lead groups through transitions between spaces, performing headcounts before and after each move
• Set-up and take-down of equipment before and after each party
• Communicate with the birthday host family to confirm party details, themes, and any special considerations
• Supervise and direct volunteers assisting during the party, delegating tasks as needed
• Ensure the safety of all participants throughout activities, including footwear checks and safe play practices
• Clean and reset equipment storage areas after each party
• Mentor volunteers and support their development
Administrative
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions
• Confirm party details and guest counts with the Birthday Party Host
• Assist with safety training related assignments as required
• Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or incidents
• Complete Incident Report Forms as required
• Complete customized lesson plans in advance
• Additional administrative duties as required
Risk Management
• Maintain gym equipment and activity areas to ensure cleanliness and safety
• Perform first aid as required
• Follow all emergency procedures
• Assist in department volunteer training
Qualifications
• Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certification (Required)
• Recreation programming experience
• Experience facilitating group activities or games
• Ability to build and lead a lesson plan
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High 5 is considered an asset
Assets
• Experience working with children in a birthday party, camp, or recreation setting
• Experience leading structured activities and lesson planning
SKILLS REQUIRED
• Ability to plan and adapt games on the fly based on group energy and age
• Ability to lead and facilitate groups independently
• Strong communication skills with both children and parents
• Good customer service skills
• Ability to supervise and mentor volunteers
• Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
PHYSICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL DEMANDS
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy, and noisy environment
• Ability to be highly active throughout the shift (running, demonstrating games, moving equipment)
• Ability to lift 20–25 lbs on a daily basis
• Ability to work inside as well as outside when required
• The successful candidate must hold high ethical standards as they are working with a vulnerable population and has access to confidential information
• A successful candidate will require to provide a VSS
• Remote working not available for this position
