QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Ability to type 60-80 wpm; Knowledgeable in the use of data bases, word processing, and spreadsheets; Strong customer service orientation; Excellent communication skills: telephone, verbal, and written (including grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation); Excellent organizational skills; Able to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision; Medical terminology with an understanding of diagnosis codes and CPT coding; Ability to handle frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy in work; and Ability to work well with others, as well as work independently.
Preferred: Pathology experience; Basic understanding of Human Anatomy; Medical terminology, word processing, diagnosis and CPT coding.

Light physical and moderate cognitive demands. Sedentary physical demand capability, able to sit for 2 -3 hours at a time; able to bend and reach intermittently. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• • Commitment to Team: Develops and facilitates good working relationships with superiors, physicians, staff members and co-workers/peers. Contributes in problem-solving activities, intra-and inter-departmentally. Demonstrates flexible staffing needs within the department. Uses department resources (supplies, equipment) in a cost-effective manner. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner to medical director, co-workers and physicians through informal updates, written and verbal communications. Consistently meets attendance standards and follows the department standards for "calling in" and requesting time off. Supervises the business/clerical functions. • Transcription: Transcribes dictation for pathology section. Enters patient history into the computer system. Reviews and/updates billing information as appropriate. Maintains confidentiality of all results, personnel and business operations. Transcribe memos and letters. Checks reports, memos, and letters for correct grammar, distributes report, and correspondence. Verifies CPT codes at the beginning and end of the transcription process. • Telephone Communication: Communicates clearly to callers by answering questions, directing calls and screening calls. Maintains a professional demeanor at all times. • Computer-Based Functions: Performs word processing of reports, letters and charts for laboratory managers, pathologists, and section leaders. Maintains databases as needed. Uses Microsoft Office to manage physician calendar, schedule meetings and send emails for department. Compile and tabulate data for QA/QC reports, presentations, financials and other projects. • Office Equipment: Operates and/or troubleshoots all office equipment; fax, copier, etc. • File: Maintains all files surgical, cytology and computer based. Prepares slides and reports for conferences and consultations. Prepare and complete send out requests and file returned materials. Cross reference signed Cytology and Histology reports with the pathology information log. • Promotes Patient Safety goals: Demonstrates understanding that all employees are responsible for patient safety. Recognizes the importance of reporting, documenting and review of errors to improve patient care.
