Academy Bus is seeking a full-time Maintenance Supervisor for our new Perth Amboy, NJ diesel bus garage. The Maintenance Supervisor will provide hands-on leadership and day-to-day supervision of mechanics while ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely maintenance and repair of our motor coach bus fleet.
Earn an annual salary of $85,000 per year. $2,500 Sign-On Bonus. Every Friday is Pay Day!

Key Responsibilities
• Supervise, lead, train, and mentor mechanics and maintenance staff in a busy diesel bus garage environment.
• Assign and prioritize daily work orders, repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and road calls.
• Monitor technician productivity, quality of work, turnaround times, and compliance with company maintenance procedures.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of modern motor coach diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems.
• Inspect completed repairs and ensure buses are safe, road-ready, and compliant with applicable maintenance and safety standards.
• Coordinate road calls and provide technical support to drivers and field personnel when mechanical issues arise.
• Oversee preventative and routine maintenance programs and identify potential mechanical issues before they result in vehicle downtime.
• Perform and oversee inspections, testing, and road tests following repairs.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair orders, inspection reports, warranty documentation, parts usage, and other required records.
• Complete required administrative tasks including work order review, maintenance documentation, employee timekeeping, scheduling, parts coordination, inventory tracking, and reporting.
• Communicate maintenance needs, vehicle status, staffing concerns, and operational issues to management.
• Ensure mechanics follow proper safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and established garage practices.
• Assist with employee training, performance feedback, and enforcing department policies and procedures.
• Diagnose, inspect, install, disassemble, repair, and clean components including diesel engines, electronic systems, drive-line components, tires, bearings, brake systems, seals, radiators, water pumps, coolant hoses, alternators, regulators, steering components, filters, door assemblies, pneumatic systems, belts, suspensions, HVAC systems, generators, seating, and glass.
• Oversee general welding, fabrication, and other mechanical repairs as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe diesel bus garage and work environment.
• Perform other supervisory, administrative, and maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Minimum 7 years of diesel engine and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance experience.
• Previous supervisory or lead mechanic experience required.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively supervise personnel while also performing hands-on mechanical work.
• Proven ability to safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, hydraulic jacks, pullers, VOA instruments, reamers, vacuum and compression pumps, welding equipment, and testing instruments.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and systems such as Quickserve, Insight, DDL software,DDEC readers, ATEC readers, SmarTire, electrical schematics, and A/C (Freon) recovery and charging equipment.
• Basic computer skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced diesel bus garage environment.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements is a plus, but not required. Willingness to obtain a CDL is desirable.
