About the Position To strengthen our research on phenotypic characterization of resistant bacteria and preclinical development of novel antibiotics, we are seeking a Research Scientist with a strong background in microbiological susceptibility testing and in vivo infection models. The position combines independent research with hands-on laboratory work and scientific method development, quality assurance, data interpretation and technical dialogue with colleagues as well as national and international partners. You will work closely with committed colleagues who value scientific and technical discussions, quality and an open approach to collaboration Your primary tasks: Establish and validate phenotypic characterization methods for resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and validation of bacteria for External Quality Assessment and Proficiency testing programs. In vitro efficacy testing of novel antibacterial agents (MIC testing, breakpoint determination, Checkerboard assays, time-kill assays, frequency of resistance). In vivo efficacy evaluation of antibacterial agents in murine infection models. Prepare SOPs, quality assurance and documentation, and contribute to data interpretation and dissemination. Provide technical support to the laboratory technicians within the described areas Manage international CRO collaboration as a study director Your Qualifications You have a Ph.D in microbiology with an additional +5 years’ experience of drug discovery and pre-clinical antibiotic development. You are a team player and enjoy working in multidisciplinary international collaborations. We particularly value your ability to work independently and systematically with laboratory method development. We expect that you have experience with: Hands on microbiological laboratory work including antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Efficacy testing of novel antibacterial agents (MIC testing, Checkerboard assays, time-kill assays, frequency of resistance) Standard murine infection models used for preclinical efficacy evaluation. International research and CRO collaborations. About the Danish National Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance You will be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team of 20 scientists and 10 technicians in the Danish National Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance (NRL-AMR) responsible for national as well as European surveillance of antimicrobial resistance. The research team is also engaged in international collaborations on preclinical development of novel antibacterial agents. Conditions of employment The employment will be in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC-overenskomsten). You will be employed in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, and in accordance with the applicable job structure for scientific staff with research duties at sector research institutions.
