Job summary
Due to retirement from critical care, we are excited to expand our intensive care consultant team. The post is suitable for doctors with a CCT in intensive care medicine AND anaesthesia. Anaesthesia sessions will be negotiated at job planning but would particularly suit an applicant with an interest in obstetric anaesthesia. Leadership experience would also be valued.

Main duties of the job
The post will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital, but the postholder will work (including out of hours) both on this site and in South Tyneside District Hospital. As well as the clinical aspects of the role, the successful applicant will be expected to be active in non-clinical areas, particularly in education. We are a cohesive and productive team; a track record of successful professional relationships and positive feedback is highly valued. To work under the direction of the clinical director(s) and clinical co-director to coordinate and deliver the strategic and operational aspects of critical care services and those of respiratory medicine to the population served by the Trust. These will reflect National and Local priorities including the strategic direction of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHSFT.
Person Specification
Experience Desirable
Additional clinical skills to those required for a CCT in intensive care medicine. Ability to train and supervise echocardiography. Current life support course (e.g. ALS) Experience of consultant level working in the NHS

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills Essential
Primary medical qualification Full GMC registration Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for intensive care medicine or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for anaethesia or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC. FFICM by examination or another postgraduate examination in intensive care medicine.
