Learn more about our Vision, purpose, values - AngloGold Ashanti POSITION Engineer 3 - UG Mine Planning DEPARTMENT Technical Service LOCATION Geita Gold Mine Tanzania EMPLOYMENT STATUS Full Time OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE Develop options for the optimal development of the Gold Mine and produce schedules, production forecasts and budget for the underground mine to meet budget physicals in a manner consistent with Company Vision and Values. Support operational execution through short-term, medium-term and long-term underground mine planning across day-week, 1-3 months, 4-18 months and 18 months to life of mine horizons. ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES Contribute towards systems within the Mine Planning section in the Mine Technical Service Department that deliver mine schedules for execution and maximise the value of the underground orebody. Under the direction of the Planning Superintendent, deliver physical schedules for the underground mine with accuracy commensurate with the confidence of the reserve or resource for the full asset life. Aid in building organisational capability within the Mine Technical Services Department to successfully deliver the Mining Department budget and Life of Mine Plan. Undertake resource identification and evaluation to optimise development of the Gold Mine asset potential. Identify options to enable step changes to the mining process to deliver productivity and or cost improvements. Authorise and oversee creation of the mine physical schedule prepared by the Planning Engineer II, with accuracy commensurate with the confidence of the reserve or resource for the full asset life. Develop and contribute towards systems for the Mine Planning section to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, and monitoring of work practices. Create standards, procedures and guidelines for all tasks carried out by the planning department and ensure they are document controlled. Support Operational Excellence initiatives and help drive value creation within the Mine Scheduling Department. Provide a safe work environment and comply with SHE&C plans, procedures, management systems and processes within the Mine Planning team. Develop and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues, business partners and other stakeholders, and use these relationships to resolve issues when they arise. Apply Management and People Practices within the Mine Technical UG Department. Report performance to plan and identify and rectify variances. Complete a comprehensive handover package to the Mine Planning team for all aspects of the life of mine plan, including strategic intent, mine design, infrastructure specifications, production schedules, financial models, identified risks or issues, and mitigation strategies. Implement and manage strategies to optimise delivery of mine schedules for execution which maximise the value of the underground orebody, including adoption of innovative equipment, technology and work methods. Contribute towards strategies to optimise delivery of mine plans, designs and work packages for execution which maximise the value of the underground orebody, including adoption of innovative equipment, technology and work methods. Analyse optimum mining methods, cutoff grade, design, sequencing, infrastructure and equipment requirements to determine the economics of each mining or study area, and evaluate against strategic objectives to determine further optimisation or termination of work. Proactively communicate threats to budget delivery, including grade, physicals and schedule variances, and plans to ameliorate business impacts. Implement a formal risk assessment process for the monthly schedule and quarterly forecast. Actively consider safety in design in the creation of mine design, mine development sequencing and specifications for underground infrastructure. Actively engage in the operational excellence program, identify opportunities to create value, and track progress against plan schedule and outcomes. Comply with all standards, procedures and guidelines for tasks carried out by the Mine Scheduling department and ensure they are document controlled. Identify direct report development needs and develop and enable them to effectively manage business processes, workgroup, contractors, assets and other resources for which they are accountable. ROLE REQUIREMENTS Education & Qualification Degree in Mining Engineering or relevant discipline. Professional registration with ERB. Experience At least 7 years operational experience in an underground mine. Knowledge & Skills Experience in mine design and scheduling software including Deswik, Studio UG, EPS, Ventsim, Vulcan and mine stope optimiser. Broad range of skills spanning resource and reserve estimation, underground mine design, infrastructure specification, mine scheduling, equipment selection, cost estimation, planning, discounted cash flow analysis, budgeting, contractor management and consultant management. Sound understanding of the mining value and risk drivers in the business unit. Good communication skills. Good report writing skills. Ability to work in a team environment.
