Equipment Operator – Underground Construction Location: Reno, NV Department: Field Type: Full-Time
About the Role The Equipment Operator is a skilled field position responsible for safely operating construction equipment while actively supporting underground utility and civil work. This role is for operators who understand that operating equipment is part of the job and that supporting the crew through labor tasks is expected.
Equipment Operators are expected to take ownership of the equipment and vehicles they operate and treat company assets with care.
What You’ll Do • Safely operate excavators, mini excavators, loaders, and other construction equipment • Support underground utility installation, trenching, backfill, and site restoration work • Exit equipment as needed to assist with labor tasks and crew support • Work closely with spotters and crew members during excavation activities • Perform pre-use and post-use inspections on equipment and vehicles • Complete daily inspection reports and required documentation • Follow job plans, grade requirements, and foreman direction • Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites • Treat all equipment, tools, and vehicles with care and respect

Requirements Required: • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record • Minimum one year of construction equipment operating experience • OSHA 10 certification • Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor • Ability to follow job plans and direction with situational awareness
Preferred: • Experience operating excavators, mini excavators, loaders, backhoes or similar equipment • Experience supporting excavation activities around live or existing utilities by locating, identifying, and verifying utilities, establishing traffic control when required, assisting with trenching and excavation, and ensuring utilities are protected throughout the work • Ability to read construction plans and understand grades and elevations • Underground utility or heavy civil construction experience • Bilingual preferred; must be able to read, write, and speak English and be comfortable using basic computer and mobile technology
