About the Role:
The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the company. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close, performing account reconciliations, supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, and assisting with job cost and financial reporting.
The Staff Accountant works closely with accounting, operations, and project management teams to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and properly recorded. This position also assists with audits, reporting, and other accounting functions as needed.
Essential Functions:
• Prepare and post journal entries and assist with the monthly and year-end closing processes.
• Perform general ledger and balance sheet account reconciliations and research discrepancies.
• Assist with maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice review, payment processing, customer billing, and account reconciliation.
• Assist with project and job-cost accounting, including reviewing costs, coding transactions, and identifying discrepancies.
• Assist with Work in Progress (WIP) reporting and provide supporting information for project financial reviews.
• Review project costs and financial activity for accuracy and communicate discrepancies to the appropriate team members.
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports and other management reporting.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
• Assist with cash receipts, deposits, and cash-management activities.
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and assist with depreciation and related reconciliations.
• Assist with annual audits, tax preparation, and requests for financial documentation.
• Work collaboratively with project managers and operational teams to resolve accounting and billing questions.
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Assist with improving accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls.
• Perform additional accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience; construction accounting experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Experience with general ledger accounting and account reconciliations.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with accounting, operations, and project management teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience with construction ERP/accounting software preferred. 65-75K
