ICBL is Barbados’ largest general insurance provider, writing business in all areas of general insurance including, Property, Liability, Accident, Motor, Marine, Aviation and Transit Insurance. ICBL also offers insurance coverage for Group Life, Group Health and Individual and Group Pensions.
We are recruiting a Manager - Financial Reporting & Controls who will be responsible for the preparation, accuracy and integrity of financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. This role is critical in maintaining strong financial controls, optimizing reporting processes and supporting strategic decision-making. The Manager, Financial Reporting and Controls will work closely with internal stakeholders, including actuarial, risk management, audit and senior leadership, to enhance financial reporting frameworks and governance.
The position is at the level of Grade 2 in the Company’s compensation structure and will report to the AVP - Financial Reporting & Transformation or designate.
Main Areas of Responsibility
• Financial Reporting:
• Leads the preparation and review of financial statements in compliance with IFRS and/or statutory accounting principles.
• Ensures timely and accurate submission of regulatory filings, including annual and quarterly reports to insurance regulators and other relevant authorities.
• Coordinates with external auditors and manages the audit process, addressing any financial reporting concerns.
• Oversees the consolidation of financial results across multiple entities, ensuring alignment with corporate accounting policies.
• Provides financial analysis and insights to senior management to support business strategy and performance evaluation.
Financial Controls & Compliance:
• Designs, implements and monitors internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) in line with all applicable regulations.
• Assesses and mitigates financial reporting risks, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
• Collaborates with risk management and internal audit teams to address control deficiencies, remediation and improve financial governance.
• Maintains documentation and testing of financial controls to support external and internal audit requirements.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership:
• Partners with actuarial, treasury, risk management and business units to ensure accurate financial data and reporting.
• Provides technical accounting guidance on complex transactions and new accounting standards IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
• Leads, mentors and develops a team of financial reporting professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Where applicable, responsible for managing and coordinating the performance management process, end to end, for direct reports by:
• Working with the direct Manager to set performance objectives and updating, as necessary.
• Gathering, analyzing and presenting statistical performance analysis and recommending solutions, where necessary.
• Delegating where necessary while holding team accountable to ensure targets are met.
• Supporting the organisation in the delivery of the people strategy by recruiting best fit candidates in collaboration with relevant units.
• Creating proactive approaches to well-being in the organisation in order to drive physical and mental well-being.
• Assisting in building a culture of trust.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary for the development of the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
• A minimum of a recognized degree in the field of Accounts, Finance or a related discipline.
• Successfully completed a professional accounting designation (CPA, ACCA, or similar designation).
• A minimum of ten (10) years working in an accounting and/or finance environment, with a key responsibility for financial reporting, accounting, or financial controls, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance and/or Professional Diploma in Insurance would be an asset.
• Possesses up-to-date knowledge of general accounting principles, practices and procedures.
• Possesses in-depth knowledge of IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
• Proficient computer skills – MS Office etc.
• Is able to use [or learn to use] different financial software platforms to input and extract useful financial data.
• Keeps financial information and corporate plans confidential to protect the company’s interests.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Problem-solving with attention to detail, time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and meet deadlines.
