Your Role

To support the growth of our Owner’s Engineering - Substation EPC Services team, EGI is looking for a HV Substation Design Engineer with a passion for high-voltage infrastructure.

In this role, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of complex HV substation projects (AIS, GIS, and hybrid systems). From engineering and planning to commissioning, you will take ownership of primary technology packages, ensuring technical excellence while contributing to projects that are shaping the future of the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and engineering primary systems for AIS, GIS, and hybrid substations

• Developing technical documentation, layouts, and engineering drawings using AutoCAD 2D/3D and Primtech

• Creating substation layouts, site plans, single-line diagrams, floor plans, and sectional drawings

• Performing electrical design studies and calculations, including:

• Short-circuit calculations and force analyses

• Busbar and conductor sizing

• Thermal and mechanical assessments

• Insulation coordination

• Earthing and lightning protection design

• Cable sizing and routing

• Specifying, selecting, and dimensioning high-voltage equipment

• Providing technical inputs for steel structure and foundation design, including mechanical loads and equipment forces

• Preparing technical tender documentation for primary substation systems and auxiliary power systems

• Coordinating interfaces with civil, structural, and multidisciplinary engineering teams

• Reviewing supplier documentation, technical specifications, and design deliverables, as well as participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)

• Ensuring compliance with applicable standards and project requirements, including IEC, EN, DIN, VDE, and customer specifications

• Taking ownership of engineering work packages from concept and detailed design through commissioning

Your Profile

You are an analytical and proactive engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and collaborating within international project teams.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a specialization in Power Systems

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in primary design and engineering of high-voltage substations (110-400 kV)

• Solid practical experience with AIS and/or GIS substations

• Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, including IEC, EN, DIN, and VDE

• Experience performing electrical design calculations for primary substation systems

• Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D/3D, Primtech, and Microsoft Office applications

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams

• Excellent English communication skills and the ability to work effectively in German, both verbally and in writing.

• Valid Class B driving licence

Nice to Have:

• Experience working on EPC projects

• Exposure to STATCOM, HVDC, or other advanced transmission technologies

• Experience supporting FAT, SAT, or commissioning activities
