About this role

Position Summary:

The Student Employee - Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department Administrative Assistant will provide organizational skills, office support, and coordinating efforts to the Early Childhood Education Department. The student will meet academic and professional qualifications, work with discretion and confidentiality, demonstrate dedication to academic excellence and student-centered education, and support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide administrative and office support for Early Childhood Education programming, which may include, but is not limited to general clerical functions, departmental reporting, research, and data management.

• Manage and maintain records and electronic file systems for assessment, articulation agreements; related grants; and supporting documents.

• Assist with the coordination, provide support including meeting minutes to Early Childhood related meetings and committees, as needed, including, but not limited to: Occupational Programs’ Advisory Committees, grant related meetings, etc. Attend and participate in other college related committees as directed by supervisor.

• Support the department and the college with accreditation standard compliance, including, but not limited to the Higher Learning Commission accreditation standards.

• Maintain documentation, prepare and assist with reports and duties related to grant functions.

• Other duties may be assigned by the Early Childhood Department Chair, the Dean of Occupational Learning, the Dean of Distance Education, and the VP of Academic Affairs.

• Communicate and assist faculty in accomplishing goals, educational and professional objectives.

• Collaborate with the Institutional Research Department and EC Department Chair to collect data for internal and external reporting.

• Attend and participate in meetings and trainings necessary to develop and maintain the EC program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Advanced word processing and computer skills necessary. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Canva, Word, and Excel, additional experience with computer software helpful.

• Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as organization skills.

• Experience with general office administration and office management procedures.

• Demonstrate understanding of and a commitment to the tribal college mission and purpose teaching and learning, high academic standards, and student success.

• Ability to work collaboratively with others and groups.

Student Employment Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a degree-seeking student at Bay Mills Community College.

• Must have Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined in BMCC’s Student Handbook:

• Grade Point Average of 2.0 (cumulative)

• Completion of 67% of credits attempted at BMCC on a cumulative basis.

• Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for the semester the paid internship will be awarded.

• Must have attendance of 70% or higher in all classes.

• Eligibility requirements must be met at the beginning of each semester.
