Job Title: Concrete SuperintendentJob DescriptionThe Concrete Superintendent oversees daily field operations for commercial and industrial concrete construction projects throughout Southeast Michigan. This role serves as the primary field leader in charge of directing self-perform concrete crews, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality standards. The Concrete Superintendent acts as the main point of contact with General Contractors and Construction Managers while managing all aspects of concrete operations, including manpower planning, material coordination, equipment utilization, quality control, project documentation, and concrete placement activities from layout through completion.Responsibilities
• Lead and supervise concrete field crews on commercial, industrial, and heavy civil concrete projects. • Serve as the primary field leader and main point of contact with General Contractors and Construction Managers. • Review and interpret project drawings, blueprints, specifications, and schedules to plan and execute field operations. • Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to meet project deadlines and production goals. • Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company safety standards and OSHA requirements on site. • Attend project coordination and progress meetings to provide updates and align field activities with overall project objectives. • Track labor productivity and job costs, and communicate variances or issues to project management teams. • Document daily progress, site conditions, manpower, equipment usage, and project challenges through detailed daily reports. • Coordinate closely with project management teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field issues in a timely manner. • Maintain high quality standards and ensure all work complies with contract documents, specifications, and industry best practices. • Oversee and participate in concrete operations including layout, forming, reinforcement placement, flatwork, foundations, site concrete, and structural concrete placement. • Ensure effective utilization and scheduling of tools, trucks, and heavy equipment to support field operations. • Train, mentor, and develop field personnel to build strong, efficient, and safety-focused crews. • Manage projects from initial layout through final concrete placement, coordinating with multiple trades to avoid conflicts and delays. • Ensure proper coordination of concrete formwork, finishing, and curing activities to achieve the required quality and finish. Essential Skills
• Minimum 5+ years of experience working as a Concrete Superintendent. • Proven experience supervising and managing self-perform concrete crews in the field. • Concrete construction supervision experience on commercial, industrial, or heavy civil projects. • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications accurately. • Experience coordinating subcontractors, equipment, and materials on active job sites. • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with General Contractors, Construction Managers, and Project Managers. • Demonstrated experience with daily reporting, scheduling, and manpower planning. • Hands-on experience with concrete formwork, concrete construction, foundation work, flatwork, site concrete, and structural concrete. • High school diploma or equivalent. • Strong focus on safety and ability to lead daily safety meetings and enforce safety standards. • Union concrete experience. • OSHA 30 Certification. • Experience managing concrete projects from layout through concrete placement. • Ability to perform field layout and coordinate with multiple trades on complex projects. • Heavy civil construction and commercial construction environments. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track productivity, job costs, and project progress. • Ability to mentor and develop field personnel and build cohesive, high-performing crews. Work EnvironmentThis role supports concrete construction projects throughout Southeast Michigan and involves working primarily in the field on active construction sites. Typical work hours are approximately 4:00 AM to 4:00 PM (12-hour days), Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays required based on project needs. The Concrete Superintendent typically reports to the shop daily, picks up a company truck, and then travels to the job site. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and involves exposure to typical construction site environments, including noise, dust, and heavy equipment. The position follows a union-based work structure and may experience slower hours for 2–3 months during the winter season, during which unemployment benefits may be available if not working. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livonia, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $62.00/hr.
